[ukvac] OT: What to use to receive payments PayPal or what?
I've heard lots of horror stories about PayPal and such services.
What would you folks recommend for receiving payments over the web?

Cheers,

STU!

If your dealing in the UK only, NOCHEX are the absolute best.
They have NO charges unless your adding or taking from your bank
account, they are as fast as Paypal and more secure. I can't praise them
highly enough. There is an initial limit of 90 quid on your account, but
once you get "seller" status, you are free to transfer any amount you like.

If your dealing outside UK, the dreaded Paypal is the easiest, but there
are some horror stories kicking around the net, so be careful how much
you leave in the account, and DON'T accept credit card payments, only
those from another users cleared balance (theres an option for this in
the Paypal preferences page)

Good luck!

Been using PayPal for a couple of years now, and have never had a problem with it, mind you I don't keep any real amounts of money in the account for long.

As for credit card payments - can't see why you would switch this off, it is one of the main benefits of the service!
Since it was taken over by eBay, I really think the old problems some users had have ceased, they also allow accounts in Sterling and Euro theses days, too...

Well, that's my take on it, anyway!

Maybe, but most of the fraudulent use comes from the CC payments.
If a user is serious and has used it before, they will have CLEARED
funds in their Paypal balance. Big difference.

BidPay will send a money order in GBP for a 5$ charge and is pretty good for
international deals.

I've used Paypal extensively over the past couple of years and to date,
(touch wood...) I've never had any problems as such. Generally, you should
be fine using Paypal but as just previously mentioned, you can always use
Bidpay (which seems to be just as widly accepted within the States).

All the best,

Mike

paypal are ok, you've just got to use common sense. i use it for a business i work for, and have been stung only once fraud wise- from that occurence, albiet probably because i was stung (but lost no money) i wont deal with sales in india/africa- us,europe australia fine. in saying that, paypal were quick yo detect any irregularities and contacted me before i knew anything about it.
