Pacman board

I`ve got this 2 stack Pacman which has an empty socket just above the microprocessor.
Did a special chip go here or a plug in daughter board like on the lower board ?

Does anyone know where i can get what ever plugs into that socket ?

Hi, this probably won't help but I have a Ms Pacman on the same board set and it does have daughter boards both sides. Again it's a different game but if it does happen to be the same set up here's an image of what mines got there. TBH there's no unavailable chips on it so should be possible to reproduce it.

I now know that i need a sync bus controller daughter board.
These are commonly available in the states but shipping makes them expensive , does anyone know if they are available in the uk ?

I'd try putting a post in the wanted section, there must be loads of these PCB sets around on people's ' to fix ' piles.
These bootleg sets don't have much value as such so you'd think people would have used plenty as donor boards.
Incidentally was the one you need anything like the one on my ms Pacman version ?

I very recently put up a Wanted ad for a Sync Buss board and didn’t get a single reply, so ended up buying a complete PacMan board with one on from the US instead.

A Sync Buss Controller pcb can be picked up in the US for around $20. Unfortunately, when you add the shipping cost on top (around another $20), then add the customs duty as it tips it over the pathetic £15 limit, then add the extortionate Royal Mail handling fee, it’s a ridiculous cost for a relatively cheap part.

Yeah crazy prices, had a look about for these boards and to be honest I have not found another one that looks like what I have on my PCB set. So copying that is probably a non starter.

Thanks guys for your reply's.
Not had much luck with wanted adds so would not go down that route.

Bones , i`ve never seen the correct sync bus controller for my board but would think it would be the same as on your Ms pacman board because the boards look identical.

There may be faults on my board that's why i don't want to spend £40+ on a SBC from the states.

Hi Robin, the ones I see when I Google a Pacman synch bus controller PCB have 8 or 10 chips on them where mine only has 6 with 4 resistors and 7 ceramic capacitors. My other concern is that it was bought from an operator in a small untested job lot and if I remember it did not work(waiting for a chip to fix my test monitor so I can test again).
I was hoping another member would confirm whether my board was a correct option and not something the operator put in from somewhere else. I seem to recall the board booted straight to a fixed screen of purple blocks on a black background, so I couldn't verify that it is the right PCB for this board set. Then I suppose it may be possible to knock up a crude copy somehow.
Hopefully the new chip for my monitor will turn up by Monday and it solves my synch issues with it and I can get on with some arcade stuff.

Thanks Bones , i here what your saying that the SBC on your board may not be correct.
As you say it would be nice if another member could say weather your SBC is correct and if other SBC`s with more chips are interchangeable.

Hi, perhaps it's time to put a post in the 'wanted' section asking for a synch bus controller PCB for a 2 layer bootleg Pacman.
It's possible they haven't read this section, some members may only read the wanted and for sale part, worth a go.
