Pinball Cabinet Design Plans

Hi There,

I thought it would be good to share my build plans for a full sized pinball machine cabinet. I made this design a few years back, loosely based off a Williams widebody. It ended up being too large to sell, so I downsized the cabinet to a play area of 27" and 32", which are the sizes I still sell today.

Just a quick intro, as a newbie here. Part of my day job is making arcade cabinets of various sizes and shapes. The rest of my time at work is making other non-arcade wood related items. Ok, so enough of that super long winded intro...

I think it would be good to just upload a few images of the design, drawings, dimensions and the look of the smaller cabinets that were based off this original design. Then, if anyone is interested, we can go through the following steps:
  • You let me know what needs changing, adding, and so on.
  • I will cut and build the cabinet to ensure it all fits correctly and shre photos.
  • Hopefully we get to a final design and I will then release the drawings to scale on this forum for everyone to download.
  • I will also provide the VCarve CNC files that you can hand over to your local CNC shop and ask them to cut the parts.
  • Finally, I will dismantle the cabinet and list it in the Free Stuff section.

The drawing I have uploaded is not to scale, but take a look and let me know:
  • Is there an optimum play area size?
  • What about the DMD size?
  • Does it need a coin box at the front or different hole configuration?
  • Should the play area screen be horizontal or angled? (currently horizontal)
  • Should T-molding slots be cut?
  • The base has two holes for fans, keep them?
  • The corners are made to accomodate standard pinball legs and their brackets.
  • What else?....
Just a side note, the steel legs are original pinball legs and I designed and manufactured the black pinball legs in the images.

Work can get quite hectic so I will check in when I can and respond, and when it comes to the final cut it is also dependent on finding a gap at work.

Look forward to hearing some suggestions
Scott

The electronics is going to be the most expensive part, but I am not sure of an amount as I have not built a completed one myself. If you got a local cnc shop to do the mdf cuts with the cnc file, it shouldn't really cost that much at all for the cabinet, maybe less than £200. All depends on their cut fees.

No worries. I don't have the full size in kit form, but also conscious not to turn this thread into a sales page.
