Planetside 2 anyone?

Anyone playing PS2? (Not the console!!)

Since it's F2P I downloaded it last night and had a nose. Playing on the Cerez (or something like that) EU server and the 'Vanu Sovereignty' empire (though that could change).

Looks promising. I don't know if I'll persist or not but it would be good to get a UKVAC outfit together if we could. At the moment I'm still trying to get past the level 1 "dead in 2 seconds" syndrome, so I'm seeing if I can get in as a medic for a few levels to get my gear up. I did manage a kill last night though so that was cool

OK, I'll boot into my gaming partition later and have another play about with the game. At the very least I'll confirm for sure which server I'm on and then what my player is - though I think it's Gudd666

Then probably need to add people as friends and if we get enough, and indeed get into the game a bit then I guess we look at forming an outfit. I know Rav and James have this game too but Rav's not chipped in so I guess he doesn't play it.

Back to the OP, it does look like the game can be played without Steam but I can't confirm one way or another since I'm already registered for the game and I downloaded it from Steam so for me Steam starts every time I start the game (if it's not already started).

Still doing flying club admin so haven't fired it up yet

I just spent a few hours playing this and I don't mind admitting, it's seriously hard to get started. I'm still only about 3/4 of the way to L2. The problem is that you're all in it together so as a very low level player almost anything else in the game can shoot you with little more than a single shot!!

I have managed about 5 kills though so far. Most of them by being a gunner and manning one of the turrets. It's a slow way to start up but I'm not sure what the alternatives are. My nephew suggested being a medic up until about L10 (his words were actually 'stick to being a medic and you'll get to L10 in no time) but even that poses a problem since the people you need to heal tend to be in the thick of it so <PING>, yer dead

I'm determined to persevere for a little while yet though.

One thing I will say is that you're going to need a graphics card capable of some serious draw distance. The main issue I'm having, even as a gunner is that the part of another player that tells me if it's an enemy or not isn't rendering until often it's too late. And I've just bought a GTX670 so it's not like I'm running an old card or anything.

I may look into that as I may need to tweak some settings. First thing I was told (by my nephew) was to apply a bunch of settings for ultra resolution graphics, but I'm thinking now that for shear practicality that may have been a bad move. We'll see...

Bit rubbish unless playing in a strategic group. O/w it's just Battlefield but slower
