Ground control to Shaun and Vic...
Are you still out there, in your pod(cast)???
Hope the aeons that have passed since the last episode have been kind to you?
The weather in RygarR-land has been too hot for video-games. It's been as high as 27 degrees C here, which I believe is about 200 degrees F in old money.
Still, I've had a go at both of the latest challenges. With a classic and an archaeological discovery at stake, how could I not?!
I wouldn't say Mr Do's Wild Ride was the best of the Do's. But it certainly isn't a Doesn't (!). Learning the patterns takes time and luck. Think I got to level 10 in the end - with a diamond adding to my score. With rainier weather, though... Do knows how far I could have gone? Maybe even level 11.
Mrs Dynamite was a nice surprise - an effectively 'new' game from back in the day. Top work digging that one up.
I had hoped to sink some time into it, so updated the GroovyMame.exe in my cab, and added the new 'mrsdyna' ROM. But for some reason (probably stupidity), just couldn't get it to work. Then I went on holiday for a week, and when I came back, found the ROM by accident - at the end of the favourites list. Not in alphabetical order, but at the end. No idea how that happened :-(
Anyway, while I wouldn't say it's in the same class as Mr Do, it does have a certain charm. As you mentioned last time, it presages other games, like Bomberman. I like way that killing three baddies with one bomb gets you an extra (wo)man. I'm not so keen on the barrel shoving, which would have worked better if you could have used it to kill the baddies. But I suspect there are some other tricks and tactics hidden in there that would really help to ramp up your score. I'm thinking that if you used up or destroyed all the dynamite as quickly as possible, while keeping the owls alive, you could use the superbomb to kill half a dozen at once for a mega bonus?!?! Time will tell...
