. Someone is advertising an R-Type 2 Major Title conversion as original on eBay. You can see enough of the PCB in the second picture to tell that it's a Major Title.

To be fair to the seller, they may not even know that it is a conversion. I once bought RT2 from a seller in Germany and it turned out to be a conversion, he was apologetic and I belived him when he said he knew nothing about it. If the Major Title labels have been removed, it would be very difficult to spot to the untrained eye.

That said, if I paid the amount that board is going for and it turned out to be a conversion, I'd be a bit upset.

Sorry, that reply didn't read the way I intended. My R-Type 2 original has a large lower board and smaller upper board. The Major Title conversion has two larger boards. The layout of the chips between the two is different too. These are the things that give it away.

Most people won't be able to tell, really. It's not the usual type of awful low quality anonymous bootleg hardware. The MT hardware is still original Irem and looks the like the real deal unless you've seen an original RT2 up close. What does matter is if they made a good quality job of replacing the ROMS without messing up the board.

If you find a gold-label edition of the MT-RT2 conversion then it was done professionally and is one of the original 7 :)

The EPROMS have printed gold labels.

The shoutbox seemed to eat this earlier but I've got a factory in China banging out 10k gold eprom labels. I couldn't find the right shade of gold paint so they're using leaf but I anticipate vast profiteering once they're shipped over.
