Small update , Peddle housing stripped, cleaned, repaired, POT replaced and greased. Taken me weeks to get around to it. Pictures don't show how bad they were really , Very Very creaky when in use & could not calibrate the pots properly as all over the road (Pots cleaned before replacing and could not get them to work). The grease around these were as dry as a nuns foof !

Before :-

And after all done :-

There is 2 of these and both are complete, Now wired pots up yet and tested and the front plate is still being worked on.

Peddles are now ready after fitting the ant slip stuff :-

Before :-

After :-

Just painting the front plate , Not overly chuffed with it. As above there was a disaster where the paint would not dry and I didnt fully strip back to metal this time so the finish isnt super smooth like before. I will assess this when its dry. I need to give it time.

Dave.

@TheDaddy You doing this to keep it or are you potentially gonna sell it/swap it when you're done? Could offer up a swap if you're heading that way. Sega Rally upright on original hardware is a potental for my chopping list.

Hi Mate , I am hoping to keep this and play it. If i get another racing one and its a dedicated I want a Daytona I think, But I am after a small ish jamma with a 19" screen that i can use for a dedicated wonderboy.

So today I wanted to do a couple hours and decided to tackle my most feared job of all ............................... METAL WORK !!!!

*** Apologies I did not get as many picks as I thought I had ***

I have never really done much of it and my tools are limited although I did purchase a set of metal hole cutters (Not that cheap and unsure how good they were going to be ) Of pic of them here , We will be using the 25mm One :-

Screenshot 2024-06-15 131710.png

So first I needed to design this as there are 4 buttons for the Views , This is easier said than done but did not take too long. I printed them out and tested and all seemed ok so I measured it to the cabinet and taped it on using masking tape (You can see through that ! & makes paper stronger while you drill)

So i stood for ages looking at this , And was scared of doing it as I didn't want to balls it up , But , If you don't try you never know so i just went for it !

Obviously had to remove the steering wheel at this point. So we need 12 holes , so I used a 3mm Drill bit to pilot first. My drill bits are absolute shit and hardly did anything. I was a little frustrated at this point but I did have a set of Makita metal drill bits so give them a go and they (Well some) were good enough. I managed to pilot each one but they did move a little bit so was not spot on. I then moved to a 6mm bit and this was enough to give some play and as they had moved a bit helped that too !!

I then got the 25mm for the main button hole and off we went !!! I was very surprised at how good they are !!! They went straight though , Although my drill was getting well hot. So the holes are a little out but all ok as far as I can tell.

A quick dry fit of back boxes :-

Dry fitted all buttons , PLEASE NOTE dry fit so loose. This means not 100% lined up until I actually fit them.

20240615_123338.jpg

Again it does not look too bad !!!

So at this point i though I may as fit the Start & Exit for the menu & game these are just 25mm with no guide so measure and cut using same method as above :-

And another dry fit of them all :-

20240615_125709.jpg

I can see all of you metal working dudes out there saying " What is this guy doing !!! " Well he is doing his best with little metal work knowledge is what he is doing ! lol. Sorry if I have offended you perfectionist as this defo is not brilliant , But to be fair I am happy with it.

I have not fitted the buttons as all needs stripping and painting so no point. I am now at the point of removing the Gear stick , Steering wheel and getting this sanded and painted. There is some real rough bit and paint peeling off , All will be revealed on the post for that.

What do you all think ??

Thanks for looking ,

Dave.

P.S NOTE TO SELF :- You learn NOTHING by just staring at things.

Fairplay, you absolutely smashed that, it looks great....

You're so right, if you don't have a go, you'll never learn anything. Taking your advice and leap of faith on board, I'm now going to attempt and fix my back door. Only been playing up for the last 25 years, but today is the day 😄.

Wow i saw this on eBay awhile back and thought it was never going to sell. Glad to see it did. Did you get any further with it? I don't blame you making a MAME cab out of it. Ridge Racer cabs with no PCB, forget restoring it! MAME is excellent.

Didnt have loom so will be making one , using a-pac and a arduino for the buttons as better programming control.
