Hi there, I have a Initial D8 and now bought a Sonic Racing for restauration to have a 2 Player Initial D and Sonic, swapping RE and Ringwide really is no problem, right?
...but a problem is this: the Force Feed Back of the Sonic does not work. On first view the drive boards seem similar, but the ID8 has the normal 838-14592-91, the Sonic something called UDDF44B1SG(?). I switched parts, the FFB gladly works, but this UDDF44B1SG has same pins and connectors, but does not work. I checked voltages, the 838-14592-91 gets its 110V, but the UDDF44B1SG only 3,2 in the Sonic?!?. Is that correct? I mean, the voltage also goes through the board to the FFB, right ? This big thing wil not run with 3 Volts, correct?
So my questions: Is the 3,2 Volts in the Sonic correct?(I checked- the cables come straigt from the transformator) or should it get 110V or more or less?
When it works with 110V - Should this UDDF44B1SG work with my ID8 or is it not compatible? In oter words, can I be sure it is defect or not?
When I need 110 Volts, where can I get it? Everywere I checkef the Sonic has 230V or small voltages, but all seems original- has the transformator pins for 110V?
I hope someone can help, I try for a very long time meanwhile and of course Internet has no Infos.
Thanks you for every answer, cheers, Frank.UK Vac Servo.jpg

There are different types of motor boards for different protocols but they look the same, identical. Some are midi protocol and some are serial.

It may not be the motor board though. If it's serial it will have a small serial converter board in between and these go bad.

When you say it “doesn’t work” in the sonic do you mean you get no FFB or do you mean the board shows no signs of life / no LEDs light up? Or both?

And when you swap in the FFB board from your ID and it works (you are brave for doing that!) are you only feeding it 3.3 volts to the same bottom left connector in the picture? Because in my head that should not work!

If that board gets 110 volts in the ID setup it wouldn’t be able to function on 3.3 volts to the same connection in the sonic setup. Unless it was getting power from another connector?

Hi and thank you for the reply. yoganuggy: there is no converter board inside, so I think that such a board is not necessary?
Chris, yes that all were my thoughts too, thank you, thats why I posted this thread - but it all was my failure:
I checked where the cables go, but not further. The Transformator has a 100Volt for the FFB (the only thing connected to that output)and a fuse, that was deffect. Changed it, now the Servo Board gets its 100V, a red LED blinks, as it did in the Initial D, all good...!?! NO!
Now it is more curious: In my Sonic I have the ID8 RE, the ID8 Servo Board and the Sonic FFB (I know it woks as I tested it in the ID8, was the first thing I did) and I checked all the cables between this 3 parts, all are ok...and IT DOES NOT WORK??
All 3 parts are ok, no cables are broken--any idea what I have overlooked?
