Hi all,

Has anyone experimented with making/trying Naomi widescreen hacks on actual hardware? This would be a potential game changer for users needing to replace 4:3 CRTs with 16:9 LCDs. This is one of my main concerns with my F355 machine.

As most of you will know the Dreamcast and Naomi are very similar machines. There are many widecreen hacks for the Dreamcast and I have managed to find some evidence of widescreen hacks also for some Naomi games - though they have only been tested in an emulator.

Here is a video of a patched Naomi game running in an emulator:

Here are download links to his patched ROM files. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1lBgTryOcvwj3iOZ4JwROhj1y7knF3aGp/view

Is anyone able to create a ROM board to test these?

If these work then maybe would could encourage the creator to patch some more games - I have requested a F355 ROM hack.

What are peoples thoughts?

Interesting stuff, I quite like this idea for emulators as dont have any Naomi stuff anymore but still like to play some of the games especially Zero Gunner 2.

I wonder if these could be converted to Netbootable roms to be tested instead of burning to roms, not sure if it would cause them to fail the memory check though, I remember seeing a command for creating them years ago.

arcade-projects.com might be a better site for info if you dont get much help here.

Thank you for the added info. I had come to a dead end on my search. I would really like to future proof my F355 arcade machine and also the wider viewing angle really helps add to the feeling of speed. (this is noticeable with switching between 4:3 and 16:9 on the dreamcast version of F355)

I have got a response on YouTube from the creator of the Naomi widescreen patches. He says that if I can find a F355 Arcade ROM that works in an emulator he will be able to try to patch it.

Is anyone able to assist? - I am unable to get an F355 ROM to load.

From another angle, I've often wondered if there's any ultrashort projectors that'll do down to 29" (mine stops at 30" with the image in a tiny window).

Proper widescreen might give more sensation of speed, but the machines just don't look right with a letterbox, losing 40% of the image.

Pretty sure that F355 works in Demul, Ive at least have seen video of the deluxe 3 screen running in it.

I have seen that one on youtube but I havent found a video of a the single screen ROM of F355 running on an emulator. All the videos are of the Dreamcast version.

I have tried 2 different ROMs of F355 in DEMUL but havent managed to get any to load. Though I am not experienced with DEMUL so may be doing something wrong.
