Problem: I have a cabinet here that needs to get to Europe, the buyer tried to arrange collection but we kept hitting a road block with companies asking for a valid EORI, which I don't have and can't get because I'm not a business.

Does anyone have any recent experience of getting this arranged and a recommended carrier? It would need to be door to door but it's already on a palette and all wrapped for transit, has been for months now.

I've sent a couple of cabs abroad before and was able to register for EORI without being a business.

It was a few years ago, so don't know if the process changed now.

I don't know what's the country you'd like to import your cabinet.
When I was buying (just) an arcade PCB from a member of this forum (located in the UK), I had to do the customs procedure, too. This was why I had to search the internet for how to do this.
First - it's not fun. I've figured out it depends in which country you live. In Germany, you need to get a EORI only if you want import items more than 9 times within a year. If you don't do this 10 or more times within a year, and the value is above 150€, you just have to fill out a very large form (again: German customs) online (ATLAS - if do this the first time, you'll need at least two hours to complete) and print out the confirmation TWO TIMES. Then you have to sign the printed out forms and take it to the customs department (maybe not the one next to where you live - I had to drive approx. 20km). There you have to pay customs fees and taxes and your package is handed over to you. You have to open it in front of the customs officer so she/he can see it's what has been declared.
If you don't have the printed confimation forms, you need not go to the customs office, they just tell you to do this first and then come again.
In Germany, if I got it right, getting an EORI number doesn't require being a business.
So - good luck and a lot of patience.

There's a fella called Adrian that does these European drives.
No idea what it costs, but the cabinet doesn't need to be on a pallet, just wrapped for protection.
Think of him like our Martin, but on tour 🙂

I've used Adrian to bring a cab from Italy to me, his quote was really good but said that normally he only ships full loads not single cabs. You never know though I guess.

Go with a shipping company that also handles "customs clearance" for you. It adds around 50 to the cost plus the vat if the recipient is not vat registered.
