Picked up a Reolink doorbell to fit, wasn't expecting anything complicated which it's not, but my house has other ideas 🙄

At the moment I can't get POE to it, which is the easiest way to install, it needs 12v-24v for full functionality.

Figured it'd be a case of replacing the transformer, that is 'usually' said to be on, or near the RCD box, mine, annoyingly doesn't appear to be.

All I have is what's in the photo, I'm assuming it'll be running directly off the light circuit (just not got around to testing that yet)

Anyone come across a similar doorbell box over the years? Taking that the live and neutral feed will be hiding under the compartment on the left?

Yeah, you can actually see in the picture on it (left-hand column) that it shows lifting that left compartment and inserting L/N. Also, it's a few years ago, but someone here got a Ring doorbell working with the 8V. Obviously if it says 12-24V then you're less likely to be in luck!

i don't get these doorbells at all, if you are in, can you just not answer the door, and if you aren't, then why do you need to know who is ringing your doorbell?

i kind of understand the "but it may be a thief", but if i was a thief, and someone answered on a ring doorbell, i would just think you weren't at home

2 blokes in my works these, and they constantly check their phones when it alerts them, and 98% of the time its just someone walking past their house, how many amazon parcels need to be robbed before you get one of these, i dont get it at all

I'm a bit on the fence. I've not got one, just CCTV (which has got everyone who's messed with me nicked, albeit with a bit of effort on my part).
I did think ringing the doorbell is a legitimate thing thieves do, so if their mug is on camera (whether you answer or not), they're going to be less inclined to go around the back and break in.
But saying that, it would be a reckless thing to do as they'd be a bit stuffed if someone answered the door - they're hardly going to pass for salespeople, so they'd quite likely end-up with someone calling the police out of suspicion. They'd have to face the ground or mask-up all the way up the path too.

I had a normal Door Bell and half the dumb ass delivery lot don't press it, also it was pathetic wireless one that would be intermittent, I would press it works, postie does it don't work but even if it does half don't press it so it's intermittent if it works

When I've done jobs I go to a house, I look for a bell and ring it, if non I rattle letterbox and knock on door LOUD, it's not rocket science

So after years of all the crap and missing parcels because I've been stood in the hall and watched someone come to door and not even hear them knock I fitted a Sensor under the Canopy which works the led lights under there at night and also triggers the door bell which was great until the Sun shines off the car and sets it off half the day long, you can't win

So my brother being Mr Amazon has a Ring Door Bell, I go his and press it, either don't work, he doesn't answer because he's asleep in day or if he does answer it on his phone I can't hear a damn thing he's saying through it

Yeah we had the discussion of no one will press the thing to start with 😂

Not a security thing with us really, more for the other half to be able to tell people to dump things getting delivered when busy, we get a lot of door to door rubbish and the local religious groups knocking too so its just intended to save the footwork whilst the nipper is young.

i have noticed a recent trend of some Amazon drivers not even bothering to knock, now and again we see a parcel on the step, but i would say the majority of times my hounds sniff them out and i imagine a lot of them probably run down the path scared

Makes sense. So take it that pictured is just standard old style Ding Dong type bell, think that's what we used to say when we were coming here to my grand parents when really young

So assume that just goes in Consumer Unit which is pretty cool and neat

Wondering if one would be any use to other half, she was talking about Ring one but she still hasn't bought anything yet

i got a reolink doorbell but i powered mine with the supplied 12v adapter and connected it via wifi to my network
i don't have a hard wired doorbell so i cant comment on that

i have it linked to my cctv pc running blue iris so it records 24/7 very good quality and no subscription fee unlike the ring doorbells

You found night vision and that works without a problem on the 12v? Gives me a couple more options that way.

Edit - @Bods the reolink is sub free depending on how you choose to use it, unlike ring, ring are easier to install from what I've heard as they're happy on 8v

night vision is as clear if not better than my cctv camera's
my doorbell is reasonably close to my router so i dont get any drop outs whatsoever (5ghz wifi)
it has clear enough images for the AI on my cctv to recognize and identify individual faces

i am well impressed with it for the money it cost
