Personally I’d say a 1chip Super Famicom.

The 1chips give the nicest RGB. I’ve had quite a lot of 1chips, all regions and it’s not a night and day difference but it’s a bit sharper so nice to have. That said I think any SFC would do just fine if you’re on a budget. someone had a load of non 1chips on eBay last week for about £30 and I think they also came with a pad and psu so you can’t really go wrong for that price.

If you want a 1chip either check out the serial number list online as the serials relate to the mobo revision and take a punt that it hasn’t been recased or some sellers list the mobo revision but they charge more for the 1chips, usually double the price.

I think it’s aesthetically more pleasing than the US SNES and the US SNES psu isn’t that easy to replace if it fails as it uses an unusual sized connector.

Or if you’re wanting to play on something other than a crt then I’d recommend the analogue super nt.

Just make sure you get a everdrive that plays the games you want to play as the cheaper ones x5 etc don’t run some things paulie2021-09-08 18:06:36

I have a Super Famicom but my first SNES was a USA one, the great thing with the US SNES is after removing the 2 small tabs it plays US and Super Famicom games,

US carts physically will not fit in a Japan Suoer Famicom.

But the bst of all is a USA SNES mini with the RGB mod, really small and neat and the best picture possible I believe, even better then the 1 chip models. I picked one of these up for £60 and modded it, it’s pretty simple.

That’s very true, if you want to play actual us carts then a us consoles saves the need for a converter, but to play Japanese carts as greathopper said you do have to modify the cartridge slot by removing two small plastic tabs. Super easy to do but sadly not a reversible modification.

Is it possible to get the everdrive though and play the us and JP roms so just have the one cart fitted or do you need a seperate everdrive for each region?
Cheers :)FinalFight2021-09-10 20:52:22

You just need the 1 everdrive cart and you can play both us and Japanese games. I can highly recommend the krikzz fx pak pro and the krikizz/Ikari sd2snes as I have both and never had an issue with either.
