You can do it but it's a bit naughty. A better solution is to use an
audio isolation transformer. You can get them in RS - something like
this:

It's virtually the same as a 110/110 to 240 in wiring except much
smaller (1 inch cube).
There's 3 windings in there 2 inputs and 1 output.
I used one previously to take morse code ident audio from separate
DVOR and DME aircraft navaids into an A-D convertor, throught a
multiplexing radio system and out to an air traffic control tower in
Singapore.
Worked a treet!
