This board was partially working but missing all sprites and had horizontal lines through the picture

sf1.jpg

not much information about this board, 3 stack board with a serious amount of proms and roms, No manual or schematics or even repair logs that i could find.

sf5.jpg

Had the bonus of having a second boardset to work with so swapped the boards round a bit and narrowed the fault down to the middle board, The other 2 seemed fine.

Middle board very clean and no obvious damage or corrosion anywhere and no previous work done.

Started with the roms, (I'll explain this for anyone struggling with reading there own roms as it confused me for a while)

These are Nec 28pin mask roms so a little awkward to read. I found some information on this subject and they are the same pinout as Hitachi HN62321's and a similar pinout to 32pin Hitachi HN27C301G's. My chip reader (GQ-4X) won't read the 6321's but it will read the c301g's so i read them by patching a wire from pin14 to pin 16 of the zif socket of my burner which gives it the same pinout as the hn27c301g, The GQ-4X also prompts for a patching wire which is also required as these are non jedec.

The roms turned out to be fine and all read into romident. Went for the proms next by swapping them with my other board, these all seemed fine with no change.

I brushed my hand over all the chips with the board powered up for a few minutes and the CXK5814P ram chip located at 5M pretty much took the skin off my fingers, It looked shiney and new so i shotgunned it briefly and this was the result

sf7.jpg

sf2.jpg

Sprites partially returned so i swapped out the ram for a new one and the sprites returned fully

sf3.jpg

The horizontal lines still remained so i poked around with the logic probe near the other ram chip at 7M this wasn't doing much just stuck low on most pins and the LS273 at 8M was the same, Shotgunning them did nothing so swapped the 273 first which made no change so pulled the other ram out and replaced with another new one and good result working 100%

Glad this wasn't to tricky as it's a big boardset with alot of proms! Love the game with its dark muffled Sfx and eerie music, Really takes me back.

Great stuff rescuing the pcb

I was looking through some old cab pics yesteday & saw the one with the punch pads, that would be a great cab to own for the novelty factor but I suppose most have long since been used for firewood

Yeah the mighty cab with the pads

, Proper rare now i bet, I remember one in blackpool(Barry Nobles) That got converted to buttons then burned to the ground with everything else, Had one in chapel st leonards Robin Hood camp arcade which started off as presure pads but converted to buttons the following year. I doubt hardly any still exist, 2 different boards around tho, 1 different to mine here, It has different/missing chips on the top board near the jamma edge so maybe the pressure pad version, not sure.

Awesome matey

I will have to compare the pcb's I have, 4 of them now I think and see if any vary. Can't wait to restore the SF1 cab, currently have the game in Goliath with the Control Panel and Marquee which is probably how it came from Electrocoin, now have the Centi cab original

Could of had the one big Curved cab that should of had the big pads, but as you've said, it had been changed to buttons, still gutted I didn't get it though but didn't have the space then

Hey Bods, Good luck with the cab restoration, Look forward to seeing pics.

That reminds me you gave me some info in a different thread regarding the CN connectors and pinout for this game, Will be very helpful for myself when i get a suitable cab for it and for everyone else baffled by the kick harness & stereo sound. I'll paste the info you gave on this post below so all info is together and easier to find later.

Info provided by Bods -

Just had a look, not got much room to squeeze in though. But CN5 3 pin one deffo goes to Control panel, and only connects button 6 on each side. Not sure where button 5 goes too? And pretty sure CN6 is going off to the speakers, can't remember if you put in a standard jamma pcb I would get sound on that, as this was factory wired for SF1

Code:
STREET FIGHTER
	CAPCOM 1987
	PIN OUTS

	SOLDER SIDE PARTS SIDE
	-----------------------------------------------------------
	Ground A	1	Ground
	Ground B	2	Ground
	+5V C	3	+5V
	+5V D	4	+5V
				E	5
	+12V F	6	+12V
	KEY H	7	KEY
	Coin Meter 2 J	8	Coin Meter 1
	Lockout 2 K	9	Lockout 1
	Speaker - L	10	Speaker +
	Audio Ground M	11
Video Green N	12	Video Red
Video Sync P	13	Video Blue
Service Switch R	14	Video Ground
				S	15	Test Switch
	Coin 2 T	16	Coin 1
	2 Player start U	17	1 Player start
	Player 2 Up V	18	Player 1 Up
	Player 2 Down W	19	Player 1 Down
	Player 2 Left X	20	Player 1 Left
	Player 2 Right Y	21	Player 1 Right
	Player 2 Button 1	Z	22	Player 1 Button 1
	Player 2 Button 2	Aa	23	Player 1 Button 2
	Player 2 Button 3	Ab	24	Player 1 Button 3
	Player 2 Button 4	Ac	25	Player 1 Button 4
	Player 2 Button 5	Ad	26	Player 1 Button 5
	Ground Ae	27	Ground
	Ground Af	28	Ground

That makes sense then as they have the 5 buttons wired through jamma connector and then CN5 like mine connects button 6

Awesome

Don't seem to be many fans of the original, but It just takes me back.

Tis a real strange pinout with only button 6 wired to seperate connector, as you can see on that, button 5 goes through the Jamma connector

I need to get the Op Wolf Mini cab sorted next, as it's falling apart, then I want to get another one sorted, SF1 shouldn't take too long to sort, it's not the best condition cab but worth having, just a shame it's not full artwork on sides as well
