hi all.
I'm on a bit of a mission at the moment to answer numerous questions about Space Invaders and to hopefully provide a set of webpages that can definitively answer it all with evidence. In the future you can compare what you collect with what was released and then you can work out how original, and where in the chronology your own items sit.
Its an iconic game, but there are a _lot_ of pcb types and rom versions. The chronological order of all of these seems to be completely up in the air. Seeing as the game code differs between a lot of the versions, you're playing a different game essentially. I'd like to tie down versions once and for all and then see how the code was changed over time. A lot of 'repaired' pcb sets also have original roms removed, and a generic (mixed up set) is burned onto a single eprom. This is a false economy, single-rom converting a space invaders pcb is a total waste of time, and it detracts from the originality. I repair these for a living, and there is nothing unreliable about old eproms.
If you are an owner of a Taito Space Invaders machine or pcb, i would really appreciate a good photo of your pcbs. I'm primarily looking to be able to read the rom labels, pcb labels and pcb etching. If i can't make out what they are from your photo i'll be asking you questions about them
knowing the serial numbero f your cabinet at the same time would be a help (a photo of the serial number plate would be ideal)
I have a lot of info on 3-layer sets, so my initial request for information will be for L-shape pcbs. If you own a Taito blue upright machine you should have the L-shape pcb set, i'm mainly interested in seeing the following :
- main pcb photo square on.
- daughterboard photo square on
- a photo of the serial number plate on the back of the cabinet
- a description of the paper pcb labels that you can see, and their numbers, as well as any etched numbers.
You can email me directly andy at andysarcade.net with your photos, i prefer to carry out communications by email rather than through a pm on here.
thanks, and hopefully you can help me fill in the picture!
