[ukvac] TECH: HT arcing
I've got a problem with a couple of my cabs in that where the HT leads
attaches to the monitor tube I getting arcing (and a funny smell). The
amount of arcing comes and goes - it also affects the picture brightness.
I've tried clearing off all the greasy and muck around the connection, but
still get the problem.

Is there any special grease or chemical a can smear around the link to stop
this or any other cure?

Cheers,
Steve

Clean it all down with a dry cloth, and get some silicon sealant, the sort of
stuff you stick around you shower cubicle. Smear it about with your finger.
Pop the cap back on. Don't get it in the hole!

If that doesn't fix it, you'll need a new HT cap, I would guess.

If the HT has formed a tracking path already then you will have to
remove the cap and clean it and the surrounding area carefully taking
care to remove all traces of existing grease. Then smear a bit of
silicon grease around the area and replace the cap.

CAUTION:

I have a couple of cabs doing this, they slowly get worse. One of mine I
powered up this morning and the HT lead caught fire, now the transformer
doesn't work!

Re: [ukvac] TECH: HT arcing
i had this on my MKII machine, i phoned up JNC sales and they said it was
damp in the 'hole' behind the HT cap.
i got advised to take it off very carefully and then put a hairdryer on it
for 2 minutes!!!

never had the problem ever again!!!
