Teknoparrot questions

Hi all,

Not a MAME question, so apologies if this is in the wrong place.

I wondered if anyone uses Teknoparrot on a 31hz monitor (640 x 480)?

I have a driving cab and was thinking of making a PC build for some newer racing games but I am fairly certain they would only run at higher resolutions.

Just thought I would see if anyone has had any success with this

Cheers

You definitely can run TP in lower resolutions, I asked a similar question here:

http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,166051.0.html

Older versions of TP, you could change the resolution, now you may have to patch the rom such as with Outrun

Cheers

Change scrip in game.ini Outrun.ini

Change 1280/720 by the resolution of your choice.

Example:
HorizontalResolution = 1280 You can change Tô = 640
VerticalResolution = 720. You can change Tô =480

Thanks for the reply.

I don’t have a outrun.ini or game.ini in my outrun 2 folder, when I googled this other people had been using a file to patch the jennifer file to change resolution but all the links were from years ago and dead.

Step 3 - Fixing OR2 (Outrun 2 SP)

There are a number of things needed to be done to get OR2 working.

1. A number of graphic shaders need to be fixed to work with NVidia GPUs on Windows. These fixes have already been applied to the download of OR2 above, so you don't need to do them. If you have obtained OR2 elsewhere then it would be worth doing this fix. Download the file outurn2_nv_shaderfix_jennifer.7z from this post and extract the files into the location you have extracted OR2 to. You would need to extract into the /disk0 folder as this contains the Jennifer folder.outrun2_nv_shaderfix_Jennifer.7z 5

2. The executable file for OR2 is known as an elf file, and it's location is /disk0/Jennifer/Jennifer (no it doesn't have an .exe extension). This file is hardcoded for a resolution of something like 800x480 and has problems with shadows if run on PC. I have included 4 fix files here, which can be used to extract a new Jennifer file, which will have a different name. You need to select and use the file based on your full screen resolution. I have included fix files for 1920x1080, 2560x1440 and 2 for 4k resolution 3840x2160 resolutions. I am unsure what, if any, difference there is in these two 4k files but I have included both. You need to extract the file to the /disk0/Jennifer folder. Don't worry it will not overwrite the original Jennifer file as these all have different names for the Jennifer file. 1920x1080.rar 8 2560x1440.rar 6 3840x2160.rar 5 3840x2160 alt.rar 4

When you have extracted the new Jennifer file make a note of the name of the one you are going to use, they are called:

Jennifer_patched1080pfix
Jennifer_patched1440pfix
Jennifer_patched2160pfix
Jennifer_patched2160paltfix

I think I did find that, there’s no Jennifer file for 480x640, any idea what version you need to go back to to have resolution settings overall? Might try finding an old version.

Yeh , I’m not to sure if,
It’s 640x480. Or 800x480
800 x 480 Is ringing a bell... it could be that sega were using nanao and 800x480 was more suited to the monitor & game together ?

I will have to do this myself soon...
I’m slowly putting a chihiro and a TP. Set ups together to pair up with nanao ms29

Outrun sp is running at 800x480 I’m fairly sure my nanao monitor (2932) will only take 600x480 so will have to try an old version. I’ll report back if I get anywhere.

The vga version does work on the screen on my Naomi.

Didn’t see any issues, I think the versions on archive.org have the patches applied already in some cases.

My gpu is an nvidia 980ti Rob_bob_2k62022-04-05 20:23:28

As this is very Outrun 2 focussed, have you thought about the PC version of Outrun 2006? It’s a windows application rather than a Linux wrapper, so the resolution scales correctly. And with a quick copy/paste of some accidentally misplaced installation files you can restore the bloom effect. Then grab a copy of Outrun 2 FXT and the menus look just like the arcade. Easier to set up than faffing with Teknoparrot and gives better results. No good for any other games of course, but for Outrun on PC I’d say it’s the better option.

Oh yes, you also get a course customiser and music customiser which is cool.
