Blimey I am so far behind with these, raced through 65, 66 this week and part way through 67 this morning. Will have to add to this post as I go through them. Great podcasts as usual.

In one of the shows Eastbourne Piers owner was mentioned, not sure if that gets covered later in shows I've not heard yet, but back in June I actually met the owner, as I am member of the National Piers Society, he was at the AGM and became part of the committee, the following day he hosted a tour of Eastbourne Pier, he is very much commited to restoring to a more old style pier, the theatre building at the back, has had a lot of work and is to become a casino. On the tour and his talk Q&A he said he did not like arcade/amusement machines had no plans to feature them on the pier, saying that though he did accept he had to have some kiddie rides as they do help with revenue. It was the arcade that burnt down part of the pier before he took it over, so can't ever really see him re-installing an arcade. He said he only looks forward never back. One person asked if he had old stuff sitting about, he said during the renovations of the theatre they found lots of old stuff and he was skipping it (this was more décor stuff I believe), I did follow it up the next day about going to have a look as he said at the time, we were welcome to go look and take stuff, they said they would contact me back...but never did. He is a business man though and a very positive chap, so who knows he might consider an event there, but I got the impression they are going for a more high end of the market business events if anything.

...more to follow as I listen to the rest of the pods.

Now up and listening to 69, thinking back to the Hunchback episode, I remember playing this as a kid on the Vic-20 and liking it, one of the first games I got for my Gameboy was Super Hunchback (which I still have) and played plenty, probably a lot better than the original.Bensonrad2016-09-22 09:04:00

Awesome stuff! Good coverage of the Kent raid / rescue.

Just to clarify, the 'Lordsvale Playscene 33' is in no way connected with Nintendo or the Playchoice cabs; they sound similar in name, and have a similar colour scheme, but that's as far as it goes. It's a sit-down Lordsvale cab wired for Jamma.

Excellent podcast again. I remember playing Prop Cycle in the mid 90s in a nightclub and though it was great fun.

Another game that is dumbed down for the American market is Radiant Silvergun on the Sega ST-V. If the game is run on a Japanese BIOS then the player can use 3 fire buttons and using combinations of those 3 buttons can get access to 7 different weapons, but if an american BIOS is used they can only use 2 buttons with 3 weapon variations. Silly Americans.

Just want to add my thoughts about Chris's game Big Blue which is amazing, the box looks incredible and really does the game justice. It's so cool to see people committing to writing code for those old sh*tty machines. It's great that there is a bunch of us on ukvac keeping these puppies alive with new content

Ive been looking forward to Mappy being chosen, giving me an excuse to dust off the pcb.
At an advanced level, it doesnt quite play as well in mame due to the control method not being the same as the pcb. An issue I did communicate to the mame team years ago but they either didnt believe me or felt it not important enough.

The difference is in the control method and playing style.
On the PCB, if you hold down left and right at the same time, right is ignored as left overrides.

On MAME, if both buttons are held down at the same time, they cancel each other out and Mappy does not move.

This may sound trivial, but at an advanced level, the ability to turn rapidly and close a door is critical, and the transition between just letting go of one direction button when both are already pressed, compared to switching between buttons can be critical.

Not related to this, I took a video of me getting 24k on the first screen last night

Them's some skills right there, amazing!

I'm playing on an 8 way joystick so it's lucky I won't get to levels that not playing on a PCB and buttons will make the difference!

Cheers Eric... and thanks for the mention of Big Blue again on the podcast guys.

Think my feedback for the Sky Kid podcast was too late and got missed last time so I should write something sooner for this one and I'll be playing Mappy for sure...

Enjoyed the last podcast as always... well done Shaun on the 1 life completion of Thunder Cross, you need to try Thunder cross 2 as its much better and the soundtrack is awesome.

Was going to post last time about Crazy Balloon, I cant believe you guys don't like it... when Olly brought his cab to Revival a couple of years ago it was THE cab that got the most play... there were loads of us at the end trying to out do each other... a cracking game that got everyone going.

And please stop calling Galaga, Galager. Its GALAGA... all of the A's have the same phonetic sound.

Anyway, rant over.. keep up the good show... :)

Hi guys,

Sorry for lack of feedback lately, work has eaten up my time, which meant I've been listening in snatched 5 minutes clips, which is crap, and I have had virtually no time to play the games.

I did like Sky Kid, although the precision required to get the bombing bonus seemed a touch unfair at best.

Mappy is abit akin to the cute but annoying girl in your class back at school. You want to like it, and for a bit you do, but then after awhile you remember how annoying it can be and bomb it off.
I've had this on my 60in1 for ages and never got on with it, mainly because I didn't understand it. Put a bit of time in and started to like it, but got really frustrated with trying to get the best score by completing perfect runs and dying stupid deaths, being pernickety about the order of collection.

That said, and I'm not sure if this is right or it is just me, but how sure are we that the computer doesn't cheat. By this I mean when you watch a Meowky walk off the edge of a platform, but then you move so that it goes off the screen, but in your head 'count' it's movement, so that you know it is safe to go onto a certain ledge, because it will have bounced past it, only to find it is on the ledge coming for you? Does that make sense?

Anyway, back in the saddle and trying to catch up on the podcasts. Loved the Scud Race music, that was my first ever cab and one of Sega'a most underrated racers I think.

Cheers chaps
