Thanks for the podcast Chaps. Another triumph of arcade-related audio entertainment.
I didn't get a chance to play the last game, but I've given Galaga 88 a blast.
I still have fond memories of it's grand-pappy, Galaxians, when it originally came out. So colourful... So insecty... Hmmm... I never thought about it at the time, but what, exactly, were all those alien flies buzzing about? Must have been my scores!
Anyway, Galaga88, imho, doesn't have the same impact. The sound's good. And it's plenty colourful, but it suffers from the same malais as many other shmups. Get any distance into the game and die just the once, and you might as well give up. You needs the firepower to do well at this one.
By the time I got past the seond wave of 'galactic dancing', I was reduced to whacking the fire button as fast as I could and dodging the bullets. Not sure what was happening up top by that stage. I didn't dare look up in case I got rammed from the side.
Keep up the good work.
PS: Top tip for the other listeners who haven't discovered this already. I've been having a quick blast at lunchtimes recently. And not being knackered, like I am by the time I get the chance to play again in the evening, my scores seem to be a bit better...
