With the new TV show it’s reminded me of what I missed when this game came out, I haven’t bothered with modern consoles since the Xbox 360

So was thinking about picking up a PS4 Pro and a copy of the remastered version. Or is it worth the extra to get a PS5? Thanks for any advice.

The remastered game for ps4 is great. But if you don’t already have a ps4 then I would recommend buying a ps5 and playing the re-remastered version for that. It’s the same game, with the same motion capture and performances underneath it, but with a modern presentation. Doesn’t lose anything and leads nicely into the second game as well. And having a ps5 provides a nice platform to enjoy other games with better performance and fidelity.

So I've been through the same quandary, I too was waiting however I'm still thinking there are a few problems with the ps5 that they'll iron out eventually so I went down the pro route.

If you're careful on the second hand market, gumtree etc. You'll get lucky like I did and pick up an eventual bargain.

I say eventual as the first thing you'd need to do is strip it down and give it some love! Mine was like a jet engine when I got it and it's not unheard of. I'll see if I can get some pictures and videos posted in a sec.

On a 4k TV it's a huge upgrade from the standard PS4, well worth doing and it'll end up saving you a good few quid in the first instance especially if you're a light user.

So before I did a sound measurement on the intro to Spiderman and it was genuinely hitting 85db+ (https://photos.app.goo.gl/yTReD37QepWFsQar9 🤣) before and afters on that link.

Basically Sony as per usual scrimped on their thermal paste, not enough and dried up long ago. Cleanup and a blob of MX-6 sorted that.

The heatsink and fan 🤢 was the main culprit, yup... you're meant to be able to see though that. Quick air blast and hoover in the garden sorted it out.

Then I ended up replacing the thermal pads too... some others on mosfets you can't see on the other side of the board.

All in all was about 2 hours work, but that was me taking my time and cleaning everything properly, could easy do it in an hour if you were quick.

The results speak for themselves (check out the second video clip, that's the same intro after the work) it's been flawless since.

Paid about £165 for the console and a vita to go with it 👍

You sir are not missing out on much in all honesty, the 360 is one of the finest consoles of all time

As for The Last of Us, played it for the first time a few weeks ago on my sons PS5.....extremely disappointed in it, less of a game, more of a walking film-a-thon. Kind of like Red Dead 2 in a way, not my cup of tea at all
