Chillin’ to some 60s - 80s vinyl …

Changed the room around yesterday and this has been a ‘ shelf ‘ for about 5 years since it last felt a big 10p enter its hungry mouth

Nostalgic memories may be stirred if you ever holidayed at Lyon’s caravan park Rhyl between 1978 and 1985 this was upstairs in the pool room with many small cab videos and a few pinball machines . YOU may have selected a vinyl back then ?

1985 we were out - tendered by Les Harker Bingo for two years so this juke retired to our Cheshire home 40 years ago . When we got the arcade back in 1987 I put a cd juke in on the ground floor…

It plays ok but the first few selections sounded like the music of fairground waltzers as the deck belt had hardened a bit to a slight oval and occasionally slowed to about 40 rpm from the normal 45 so added to the age memories with tea time voltage drops across the Rhyl area !!!

Some 7” on it date back to that era too ! or older 60s ? Satisfaction , Rolling Stones and Layla - Derek & Dominoes or Jean Genie by David Bowie .. good memories … perhaps some folk here have same nostalgia?

Who even remembers Van McCoy ‘The Shuffle’ ? Freda Payne ‘ Band of Gold’ ?

I regret “ sticking baby in a corner” ( dirty dancing quote) just a few plays later it sounds fantastic no crackle just like back in the late 70s when it was just 5 or 6 years old ! Sadly the glass got a bit scratched in places by the hoards of teenagers that gathered to play it and one of the seven different coloured pool tables available back then ( perils of public using the machines )

So the aim is not to allow it to become cluttered with daily/periodic junk beyond access …. Maybe give cd a rest and it’s loud too so while the neighbours are away for a few days ……….. 😜. That’s still easy access too relocated from where the Wurlitzer now sits…

Looks Fantastic Norm ! Firing up the jukebox at Breakfast with a coffee ..sounds Blissful.
I am a bit vinyl mad (90s-current) so would love to get a jukebox one day to house our eclectic 7" records which range from Motown , Blues (belonged to my Dad) all the way thought to A-Ha (wife a huge fan).
You have had a prolific summer with your projects !! Congratulations and Enjoy
best for now

Out local news agents used to sell old Jukebox records when we were young, I remember buying Eddie Grant Electric Avenue and Adam Ant Apollo 9

It’s amazing how you can often recall where and when a specific record was purchased …. My first two were ‘Little Children’ Billy j Kramer & the Dakotas, and ‘I Wanna Hold Your Hand ‘ Beatles in the sixties . The next day as they were 6shillings and 8d each I had enough for another ‘ I’m telling you now’ Freddie and the Dreamers ,a bit older tune I think? that was my whole pound note Xmas money off my older sister , all spent …. But hell they got played to death for days and days…… probably around January of 1964 ? The electrical shop in our village was just across the road .

The way I hoard I might still have them ??

I sold a guy a 7cwt van full so heavy the body was nearly rubbing his rear tyres , still seem to have a few odd ones laying around tho 😂

In the attic , cash boxes , cardboard boxes and even a few pool cue fulls around the workshop

Yeah I was saying to my brother about my first stereo radio cassette, we were away somewhere like Weston-super-Mare and I remember listening to Now 2, Relax, Politics of Dancing, Hyeractive etc, we were outside and I had it on a table bench or something.
Also I used to have a Transistor pocket radio and would listen to it under the bed sheets instead of going sleep, used to have on Radio Luxembourg, pretty sure I remember them playing Madonna's first song and Paul Hardcastle 19 before on the radio in UK

Never really listened to A-Ha much though the 12" of Cry Wolf (Dance Mix) and Train Of Thought (US Mix) are pretty good

Think me Parents still have there 7" singles from the Teens, had a metal rack with them all on
