Seriously technical but good points raised above.

The tube is in otherwise really nice condition. The original chassis had no signs of impact damage. The neck board, yoke etc were very dirty but without cracks/dents or any signs of taking a hit.

I’m going to give the neck, yoke and ring assembly a very delicate but thorough clean with isopropyl over the weekend as there was very thick black dust over everything.

The white marker line on the rings is still clear so I lined them up back to factory position and no real improvement. Tried sliding rings nearer/further along neck and rotated around neck to see what effect but still have the ultimate issue of the green grid being smaller than the blue and red. The corners can be pulled around a bit with convergence strips but the critical problem is that green grid size throws everything off.

Need to locate someone nearby with the same monitor that doesn’t mind me testing my chassis on their known working tube, just to 100% rule out any issues with the chassis and also to get some hi res pictures of the yoke/ring positions on the neck.

These might help you 😉
Thanks man, I know you’re right. The chassis is fine. Kind of rather it was the chassis as at least that can be fixed. This tube business is a ballache. Where do I even begin to get that fixed?! If it’s even repairable which I’m starting to worry it’s not.

Isn’t that a Hitachi tube in your pics?

I may have uploaded the wrong yoke picture. Will check tonight!

Pretty sure the deflection cables are exposed on the Toshiba tube and don’t have that plastic cover like the hitachi tube

Gentlemen! After an 18 month saga, sourcing bits from around the globe and the wonderful help from the good people on this forum I FINALLLY got this monitor going!!

Anyone that has seen my posts on this issue over the last year plus will know but the yoke was indeed the incorrect one and the original yoke was rare as rocking horse poo.

A couple of failed attempts with similar Toshiba yokes sourced from the US had me all but giving up on it but a lifeline from JCL games saved the day!

After help from the gents here to identify the correct yoke, I had put sweeping set of emails out to anyone/anywhere that may have had access to old Toshiba tubes and JCL dug a similar looking yoke out from the stores.

It had no serial number and it was not cheap but I told myself it was the last chance saloon and bit the bullet.

Arrived yesterday and after a bit of tweaking the yoke and convergence rings it all lined up and I could have wept with joy 🤣

I have a little bit of vertical sizing/foldover issue that needs looking at and some pin cushion adjustments but it’s almost perfect now and my U4 is back from the dead.

Thanks so much to everyone who helped get me this far. Days like this keep me coming back.
