Better start as I mean to go on!! :) Sorry for the lateness of this. I spent Sunday at Ravs discussing what was to come, the rest of the weekend was spent on the sauce ;)) OK, after lengthy discussions I have changed my original plan of completely restarting the VAC with a new board etc. It would be a complete waste to throw away all that is in place just for a cosmetic makeover. So here's the plan! If interested, all of you old school out there can treat http://www.ukvac.com/forum/default.asp as the home of UKVAC. I would like everyone to use the board directly as opposed to this maillist which will no longer link its post to the board. The mail list will stay up for the time being, but once everybody is back on board I would like to take it down permanently, but that is a discussion for later. I understand that some of you are in contact through facebook or MSN, but if we can use the board as a central point that would be great. My aim in restarting this? Simple... to get us all back together as it was back in the day. Dom and I spent Sunday reminiscing about all the great meets, techmeets and piss ups we had.... and then we even started turning on and playing machines! It was a great laugh... even if I did beat him (percentage wise) on his own machines :))) I personally feel it is the lack of contact, meets, camaraderie that appears to be making the majority of us feel like the collecting is not worth doing / a millstone etc... and that feeling is dangerous! One afternoon has restarted my enthusiasm for the hobby as I know that at meets by day we can fix / play the machines... and by night... BEER AND FOOD TIME!! There is no point people harping on about alternative boards such as Jamma+ and alike. They do a very good job, but they just aint the VAC! We have an affliction and we just have to deal with it! I don't see hardly any of the old faces on Jamma+... but I know the majority are still reading this list because you have replied to me back in February when I first stated waffling this idea! So in conclusion... UKVAC LIVES! Get yourselves on the board... get active and lets start getting some meets going. First tech / beer meet will be first weekend in October at either mine or Ades (subject to me asking him that is... you out there dude... I know you are) Details to follow... Come on... voice your opinions!! You know you want to!! All the best Baz ------------------------------------ Yahoo! Re: [uk-vac] Re: UKVAC Evolution is coming!

I personally would not use the forum.
If i get a mail ill read it, but i wouldnt go out my way to....

Look back at the posts in the last few months, how many of those are of
any weight? So ill add to my previous point, I wouldnt go out my way to
read pointless crappy posts.

I prefer getting a phone call asking if im up for a drink.... Biggest
shouts there go to Flipper, AndyC & K-Doe, U Guys RoX!

Question.... "Robotron" or "Geometry Wars 2"
Awnser is "Move on" :)

Re: [uk-vac] Re: UKVAC Evolution is coming!

As Rav so rightly pointed out its not for me. It was fun but looking back
over the last 10+ years my life styles changed (and i am sure for many
others too).

I've managed to hang on this long, So the times actually right now to say
this is the end for me, so long, Game Over!

I'm sorry but I just never saw the point of moving the whole thing over, I'd rather receive emails then filter or bin them as required. What's really killed UKVAC (apart from people moving on) is people forever trying to subvert the standard eg ukvac, UKVAK, uk-vac, whatever; also typing 'ukvac' into google comes up with a three year old page :), and there's a huge message on the yahoogroups list saying 'we've moved please go to the following URL'

Anyways, wasn't this suggested or rather implemented without consultation some months back, I did sign up but frankly couldn't see the value added in moving over so just kept the yahoo mailing list. When I was fiddling around on the board some days back I couldn't even remember what details I registered with. Truth be told I shall re-register and use whatever the majority are using but basically it's reinventing the wheel.

Anyways, we'll see, in the meantime I randomly found the following page the other day, http://www.dragonslairfans.com/ it's very shiny so enjoy.

thanks for that link interesting to read about Galaxian3

now i would like a version of that for wii...4 player pointer based shootem up like that would be fun!

fact is things have moved on...people actually like sitting in their front room playing modern games on big tvs and not standing out in a cold damp garage...nostalgia is great but having a bloody great box to play one single game is just nuts these days...unless it is starwars! :)

i still have my mame machine which i built 3 years ago..which i have not even turned on in the last year.

but i think there is still a place for a retro arcade museum though...i would love to visit such a place and play all the games of my youth! it was a shame retrokade never materialized!! that looked like a fantastic idea? is it dead?

i would have willingly travelled to portsmouth and dropped 20 quid for a couple of hours of freeplay on wide range of retro machines!

No maillist = no VAC IMHO...

Not without a mail interface it doesn't. Too many people work in places
where web browsing just aint allowed, but email is. Besides which, the
VAC is about old skool, so why remove trhe old skool way of using VAC?
What's next, remove the IRC channel too???

Hi Karl... great to hear from you ;)

As always, bang on the mark. I agree that all the tampering (some of which I was responsible for) played a large part in killing the VAC. But... facts are facts, VAC has been dead for a long time now, and nobody has picked up the baton. We are very close to the whole "classic" scene dying completely, something I don't want to happen.

What I am trying to do here is kick start the dead group by repairing all the damage that was done over the years... and like it or not having a board, mail list, separate chartroom (irc) and about 4 different groups was the problem. So, one board and one chartroom is the way to go. I agree in its heyday the maillist was cool... until multiple posts, off topic posts and Spam had people leaving anyway. YOU JUST CANT WIN!

At least with one board you can visit a often as you like without it being forced down your throat... personally the board is now my homepage!

And D, I accept you are not in the collecting scene anymore... but you know where we are if you want a meet / drink / laugh. I did get your text the other day, shame I was in Atlanta at the time ;)))

Final word on the matter... as always you cannot please all the people all the time, difference is these days my policy is people have to adapt to the majority thinking or miss out. Shame, but life is too short to be arguing all the time ;)))

Discuss?!

All the best

Baz
