Fired up the vertex for the first time in an age today and am loving it - unfortunately the screen has a slight wave/pulse to it which makes the graphics move about a little - not a deal-breaker but would be nice to get rid of it and have a lovely stable screen - anyone got any ideas?

Are these things ok to work on, i am ok with a soldering iron etc and have recapped chassis before with no issues...

They're a vector monitor at the end of the day, i'd certainly take a look at it. Everything will just be a bit smaller but the technology and principal is the same.

In the first instance i'd look at a cap kit as it sounds like regulation/smoothing if its wavy but pulsing could be power section related.

As long as the HV transformer is still in tact then it should be fine.

in any case I reckon its fixable

Actually, this could simply be caused by "ringing" in the power supply which may possibly be able to be adjusted out with the use of a scope and the test cart and the service manual. BUT it involves high voltages and knowledge and once you start messing with the required adjustments it is possible to make it worse. Get it right however and the screen will be lovely.

There's a section in the service manual about "adjusting the HV to reduce or eliminate ringing" or words to that effect.
