Public thanks to...

and Big up! to Vectorglow/Irongiant.

He managed to get a Wonderboy original up and running for me.

After 37 chips a few eproms and 2x z80's it's working!

Most of you would have said that this is a write off, and you'd be right!!

Just everytime I try to find a original one of these I can never get one.

Last one I was bidding on got to £87 and I got scared and let it go, then I saw

one up for £120 and someone done a deal with him for £100!

There is one on ebay.com right now for $195 then you would need postage

on top, ok he may never get that but still...

After being sold a faulty one (as a worker, damn ebay) and getting most of my

cash back, I decided I wanted it repaired, these can be a sl*g to fix,

I was reading the repair log on Arcade Otaku at the moment and it doesn't look

like a repair noob can do much with these, it's not one for the faint hearted in my eyes.

Phil wanted a break from repairing for a few weeks after not having a break

from it for 10 years, and after me nagging him to repair "just this one more" for me, he

kindly had a go, and now a worker is coming my way.

Nice guy to deal with used him a good few times for board repairs, I met

him on Jamma+ but he is also now a member on here.

(And also Arcade Otaku and other arcade related forums)

Sometimes I think a repair is better than spending 3x the amount on faulty

boards until you find a good solid worker, and I would rather own one which has

had lots of chips replaced recently, than have a worker which is about to go

down any second with 11 faults.

I know Highwayman or was it Alpha1? - says that the only thing a Wonderboy

board is good for is to convert into Starjacker, but it holds a special place

in my heart for being one of my greats.

I haven't played Starjacker - walks off to boot up mame)

Cheers Phil.

Thank you for that good sir. :)

Usually I wouldn't have bothered with such a very faulty board, but as I'm taking a break from repairs right now it seemed like a good way to idly pass the time with no pressure, so overall it was a very time consuming but 'relaxing' repair.

As for Star Jacker - well, each to his own, but from memory Star Jacker is somewhat akin to many other vertically scrolling shooters of that era.

Good to see you got it working after all that then!I didn't realise they were worth that much - when I bought my original Wonderboy board (I think it's original, it's says something like "Escape License" on the title screen) about 3 or 4 years ago, I only paid about 50 quid I think!

If it is an original it should have the heat sink with the Sega sticker on it, although there are a few version of it, as far as I konw the "Escape License" ones are original if it's on a Sega board.

I've just been taking time off 'regular' repairs for a few weeks, only taking on very urgent stuff and sometimes dabbling with my own faulty boards when I feel like it.

I intend to get back to 'full time' repairs in September, so feel free to PM me re your dodgy PCBs and I'm sure we can work something out. :)
