I can't think what difference it would be from switching on/off by the socket switches?
I think what is meant that by using the trip switches on the consumer unit, you are turning everything on the same circuit on at once. The sudden in-rush current spike can cause it to trip. I know you can get different ‘curves’ of trip switches which can mitigate the problem.
By switching machines on one at a time by using the main wall socket (or one at a time using a smart plug/app) then you won’t get this issue.
I‘ve mounted my wall sockets higher up so I can reach and turn on/off any machine individually. Sometimes I only want to power up one or two machines so only turn on the ones I want. There’s also the added benefit of being able to quickly turn off any machine that goes faulty.
We use a lot of smart plugs at work and generally they work fine. However, they do go wrong and are prone to loosing their settings. Basically they either don’t turn off and stay on 24/7 or they don’t turn on at all. Sometimes you can re-program them, it can be a bit of a ball-ache. I also have quite a few of them that are faulty and are fubar.
I prefer to keep it simple for home use and stick to manually switching machines on/off at the wall. I can turn on or off a machine quicker than opening up any app.
