Growing up near Great Yarmouth, we really were spoilt when it came to the arcades. In addition to the awesome arcades down the seafront, we had arcades on holiday camps and in pubs. One holiday camp in the village where I lived even had an OutRun DLX!

Back in the day, pub games rooms were fairly common. Adults would be in the bar whilst the kids would keep out of trouble in the games room. There was one pub within walking distance from my house with a cool games room. The pub was short walk down a dirt track, across a field and along Breydon Water. The pub was called 'The Fisherman's Inn' and I remember going there after school and playing Cisco Heat, Shinobi, Street Fighter II' and Toki, among others.

After one Summer, the pub was refurbished. The games room became a restaurant and the arcade games disappeared forever. I recently contacted the pub, enquiring about the whereabouts of the old machines. I knew it was a longshot, and a couple of days later I got a reply. "I'm afraid I am unable to advise what happened to those gaming machines as they would have belonged to the tenant at the time of The Fisherman's Inn." I was grateful to receive a reply, even though it was pretty much what I had expected. It was worth a try I thought.

And then the unexpected happened!

A little while later I received another email. "I just had a thought...I cannot remember the last time they got played on, but at my Mums house, she has old school arcade machines. The age where they use the old 10p coins".

It turns out that the Mum had moved in to a former Bed and Breakfast around ten years ago, and the machines had sat there in the basement all this time.

And so begins tomorrows Raid!

Sounds awesome! I used to go to Great Yarmouth all the time as a kid. Lots of great memories of the arcades there.

Good luck for tomorrow

Hooray!! Hope it goes well. Basement huh?! Hope there’s an easy ramp out.
Got a Playchoice out of some guy’s basement once and it nearly killed me.

Can't wait to see how this turns out. Good Luck!

Living in a seaside town, I grew up being spoiled for choice when it came to arcades. Deffo remember seeing/playing stuff like 3 screen Ninja Warriors, Wardner, Mr Heli, amongst loads of other utter classics.

I still dream that somewhere in the town, someone has a lock up full of classics.

Was getting confused there for a minute

I thought, At my Mum's house... and I was thinking, your Mum had machines and you just remembered, then I caught on, they messaged you again saying their Mum had machines... ah now I'm with it lol

Very cool and just shows you, should always ask on the off chance

Been meaning to go in one of the old arcades near me and ask them if they know what happened to the machines they had or even if they have any photo's but still not yet

Must of been awesome times with that amount of cabs to play, well if you had the money to play them, I still feel we did well in Leicester to have seen most of the classic machines you could think of, Again Ninja Warriors, Paperboy, Indy Jones, Road Runner, Dragons Lair.. had them all

Good luck and hope you find something really cool

Really should of kept on at a past work colleague that told me a garage/workshop he left full of original machines but hadn't got access to it as they sold the property in front of it, got his phone number again when he ended up working back in industry again the other year

Fantastic! I had a yearly holiday in Great Yarmouth from 1979 onwards. The arcades were fantastic! I got to play almost every game you could think of. Heaven. Holidays nowadays just aren't the same.
