Boxing Arcade Game

First time poster from NZ although I grew up and played arcades in the 70's and 80's in the UK. Very grateful for those formative years living by the seaside.

I have vague memories of playing a boxing game when I was a teenager. Probably a Punchout or a Super Punchout. However, I remember the control panel differently to what I am seeing online.

I recall there was like an uppercut control that you had to thrust upwards for that punch and I cannot find any references or pictures to it online. It was shaped more like a large red handl similiar to that on the end of a shovel.

Am I going mad?

Maybe SEGA Title Fight? I remember seeing a few of those back in the day, I played at Wizards Christchurch

Was it a single or double cabinet? Title fight was an unusual double cabinet, so maybe its not what you are referring to

Now I am questioning my thinking. The main control was definitely like the handle you are referring to in Sega's Title Fight. I would have been older by then so I am wondering if I am merging the memories.

I felt it was a single player cabinet tucked away in the front entrance of my local arcade, then again I may have just played one side. The graphical style is similar to Punchout so I can see why I mixed this up.

For now I will accept that I have this wrong, but you never know, someone may have a gem hidden away that can help me.

I remember this machine too... what I didn't realise was that Sega made a similar machine back in 1976!

Yea, I hadn't realised it was a re-release. It was so similar to Punch-Out in the gameplay (and so hard for me) it actually put me off Punch-Out

Just seen your location if you played it at a travelling fair, then likely the same machine I played.

I remember they had the machine outside the normal arcade cabins in the open air (by the 'ring the bell' machines) probably due to the space needed with the turning top.

Also i'm sure playing this as a kid in my teens it was very labour intensive to move the controls around and actually made you feel like you had taken part in a boxing match in real life!

Yeah bro, wizards was awesome. I remember those fundraising nights where all the games were on free play, for 10 bucks ??. My brother worked at the doghouse back in the day, some good games there too.

There is another boxing cab I remember from back in the day but can enever remember the name of.

It had the 2 handles for controlling the boxers fists but the whole top of the cab including the monitor could be rotated to defend from attacks, pretty sure that one was a twin cab though with a red side and a blue side.

Actually had completely missed it above, it was heavyweight champ, always thought it was a twin cab.

I used to love Title Fight as a kid, it was in the arcades in Newquay or Paignton, would be great to play it again at arcade club or somewhere like that but can imagine it's hard to find a cab in decent condition

The 1987 re-release of Sega's 'Heavyweight Champ' does fit in better with the timeline I am referring to. I had discovered pubs by then

The handles also look more familiar.

I remember heavyweight champ well, I loved it at time but very tiring.

Had no idea about the 1976 version! Looks cool! I love the way the bezel art cuts across the bottom of the monitor to form the floor of the ring which the fighters stand on. Awesome stuff!

I think I remember playing this at Mr B's arcade at Southend that was a big arcade probably the biggest down there at the time and they always had rows and rows of Electrocoin cabs with all the latest games plus always had the latest Atari and Sega games out at the time like Space Harrier Deluxe, Outrun Deluxe, Power Drift and Gauntlet.

East End overflow to Canvey Island when I was 6 or 7. Spent most of my Childhood down the seafront there and then up to Southend. I lived in Benfleet for a while though lol.
