Never ceases to cause a sense of wonder to me … the Big 10p mech. Love it !

Working on a cabinet with new and old coin mechs either side. Pulled this out to check over and replace the bulb .
The warm glow of a Big 10p mech …☺️
What is your monetary mech of choice ? Quarters ? Yen , new 50p 😂

99% of my cabs have the lovely Red Coin Mechs because my memory in local arcade was a row of them lit up which looks really good in a dingy arcade type place Don't mind which Coins as long as these type doors but mainly 10p/50p as thats what local cabs had 2x10p for 1 credit, 50p 3 credits as remembered on Double Dragon

For me, the US quarter. I like having a single coin for all my machines, all set to 1 coin/1 play.
Because you can’t spend them here in the UK, they stay in the home arcade (technically you could spend them at 4 Quarters, but that means a trip to London).

My favourite coin entry is the red S10 type. They look absolutely fantastic lit up in a dark room on a machine.

However, I do miss the big 10p. Winning a £1.50 jackpot on a fruitie BITD seemed like a nice big handful of coins, I also liked it when we were also still using the old 2 shilling coins as 10p.

Same here, the nice big 10p with that dim red glow, magical.

Remember in the arcades in Blackpool seeing them all in a row, glowing, inviting you to slip another coin in, or to go rummaging in all the coin ejects to see if any coins were hiding there.

Sadly, all the new coin doors I buy now, with the money slots are in yellow. I've asked if they can do them in red, but no. Was looking to maybe just make my own and copy the yellow ones, but not just yet

Yeh 10p red glow ..
I prefer the Japanese yen as a coin to use .

But the big 10p and 20p
Was the coin most used ..
Until it all got to expensive when games went to 50p or 1£

Mars mechs and Klingon pcb just
Put me off when compared to the
Asahi Seiko it just seems so simple in comparison.

Like the cocktail type mech .
Just no nice light bulb ..
Shame .. would have been a real nice feature to have had a little light indication of coin mech location for dark smokey dingy arcades in Japan.

I have a mix of denominations going on with my machines it’s a bit like traveling through continental Europe in the 80s ! You need a pocket full of different coins.
Here’s what you would need on a visit -

NBA Jam - has to be quarters , played it to death at Greyhound Bus terminals traveling across America with my family. Received a pitiful allowance of quarters daily from my dads bum bag.
Imported from US and plentiful quarters now! Screw you father 😂

Candy cab - has to be yen, with the lovely splash sound!
All Electrocoin Cabs - big red glow - - old and new coins accepted .
Run and Gun cab - tokens . It just came with 50 of them and never wanted to change .

They were in a bit of a state when I got the cab, but cleaned up nicely after a bath in white vinegar and a bit of tlc.

It’s amazing just how much you can improve a machine by giving it a real good clean and spending some time giving those parts which are rusty etc., some tlc.

That Midway coin door of yours big10p looks fabulous.

My favourite coin mechs of the 80's were the ones where you could reverse flick a 2p coin up the return slot on 10p slot or a 10p for the 50p slot to gain cheap credits!

Thanks, but it's nowhere near mint, TBH. When I got the cab, the door was bent and couldn't be closed properly. Obviously had a bashing at some point, as there's a brutal dent near one of the coin reject chute holes.

You may notice that both coin slots are for 10p coins. A 50p won't actually fit in the 50p side. Not sure how this happened in it's life. Haha

Finally, I'm pretty sure the MM badge is just a stick on repro. So far, I've resisted the urge to pull it off to see what's underneath. 🙂

Totally agree , so inviting and nostalgic the red glow in an arcade only lit by its screens .
Just realised an anomaly in my electrocoins … may not have noticed before this thread ..
