I've got a polo that keeps popping and blowing a capacitor. Decided I'm going to swap it out to flatscreen (keeping my other cabs CRT).

I've pulled it from the cab on the MDF board, question is, does anyone want anything from it? Will ship it anything from it for cost of postage.

Second question, I've not done much monitor work before, do I need to discharge it before taking it to the dump? I'd like to keep the MDF board to mount the TFT, but don't want to give myself a kick. I take it that if I pick it up by the glass I'm all good??Goodwinsplace2017-06-24 20:49:46

Whereabouts are you located? I'd take the whole thing off your hands if you're not too far from me! On the other hand, why not just get a replacement serviced chassis? If you're removing the chassis you need to discharge the tube ideally. I'd take the chassis, tube yoke, earth strap, degauss ring and monitor frame if you're willing to post them!

I'm in South Wales, near Cardiff on M4.
I don't have anything to discharge the monitor, ideally I don't want to be messing around making a tool. But if you want the bits I'll take a look at getting them off for you.

I had a monitor tech come out and he fixed two of these screens, the one is working great, but as he was doing this one he said he thinks the tube has gone as it kept making a noise, it then sparked and blew the resistors again.

I have just taken them to the top as is when I couldn't even give them away.

You could mention that it was working before so you don't know if it's got any charge left.

Last call for any interest before it goes in the skip this weekend.
Bit far for me to go, but if you can get all of most of the bits off I'll definitely take them. Let me know the post. 99% of the time you don't need to discharge a Polo as they self discharge, and it shouldn't be holding any charge anyway if it hasn't been used for a while, especially if the chassis won't even power the lopt when you switch it on.
