DIY Vacuum Former

Inspired by the great work Bods did here http://www.ukvac.com/forum/outrun-2-single-lightbox-side-moulding_topic339933.html I though I'd have a go at making up some side mouldings myself.

I've been meaning to make a vacuum former for some time now. I pretty much copied the design here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=maH5Ech0wK8. I'm reasonably pleased with the results..

I need to re-shape the mould a little as it is causing the plastic to split slightly in one corner. Also need to experiment a little more with different heating times to see if I can get the plastic to pull down onto the mould a little more.

Once I've cracked this vacuum forming, the next job is to make a sheet metal folder and work out how to bend up some plexi for the marquee.

Don't get too excited, they are still far from perfect! I'm hoping to be able to improve on the current results though. Got some more plastic on order so I'll see how I get on.

I already imported two Jap Outrun 2 SP cabs from Asia, but it looks like I could have just waited.

I'm sure it will get even better with time. Keep up the good work!

Can the excess plastic be reused? Did you paint it or did it come in this colour?

I've not found a use for the excess plastic yet.

I ordered the plastic in Red. It is a little lighter than my side panels but not a bad match for the seat back. The side panels on mine are sprayed in a Halfords random red anyway so they aren't spot on.
