Electricity arcing out my monitor

My monitor seems to eject an electric spark from one part of the chassis to the other, it's quite a loud electricity spark which you can see at the back of the monitor. The cab just arrived via the delivery man we all love but when i turned it on first time this loud noise came out the back. I did video it but didn't want to leave the machine on for more than a second. I don't smell anything burning, it's just this electricity arcing from the rear of the tube to the metal chassis. Will post some pics but can't upload video.

Is it coming from the rear of the tube, or is it coming from the area you've photographed? If it's coming from the anode cap on the rear of the tube you may get lucky and it may just need a good clean (careful to discharge the monitor first before going under the Anode cap and don't use liquid).

However, it sounds to me like your LOPT (the black part you've pictured) is cracked / split. It's possibly repairable with some epoxy but better would be to get the LOPT swapped for a new one if it's an available part.

None of this will be anything to do with the delivery. It's bad luck. Nothing more (assuming it worked when it left the seller).

Hi guddler, yeah the LOPT was recently replaced by a friend of the seller. I am told that the machine did work after but was then put in storage so it may have possibly split then? I have never replaced a LOPT before so is it an easy fix?

Oh updated pic from the video on post 2

It's not a difficult thing to do as long as you are competent enough with electronics and can get the right part. Te be fair though, I'd want to be sure given that it's already been replaced once.

Much though I hate to suggest it, really you're going to need to be brave and turn the cab on whilst standing behind it so you can see for sure where the arc is coming from. Not the nicest thing to do and you need to be relatively quick to switch it off if you see smoke. It wouldn't hurt to disconnect any game PCB as well in case the arcing causes any kind of spike on the mains. I don't know if that's possible but I'd not take chances with a game PCB.

If you're really lucky, it might just be damp (admittedly it doesn't sound like it)

Obviously keep your face and fingers well out of the way - but that should go without saying

ooh yeah it is a bit scary standing behind it when it sparks, nice electric sound

It was raining when the machine was picked up so possibly some minor damp that i can't see, really gutted when i turned it on for the first time. Felt like a kid with a new toy that doesn't work on Christmas day

I have the same issue with a 14" Polo.

I did convince myself briefly it was a damp / humidity issue. But it's not. It sparks from one of the pins underneath the LOPT to ground. Have a new LOPT here to fit ...

It's not for sale - because I need it to repair my own. And it's of no use to you as my monitor is a 14" Polo and yours is a 19" WG K7000.

Yes, LOPT / flyback same.

Sure is. Or an HV unit.

Only time those names are not interchangeable is when they're actually "doublers" or "triplers" but that tends to be on older stuff.
