Electrocoin made variants of some of their marquees, sometimes it was just a different coloured background and sometimes it was completely different art. A good example is the P.O.W marquees below. My favourite out the two is definitely that top one :)

This Mario Adventure marquee is believed to have been used at trade shows before the games official release as VS Super Mario Bros.

Nice spelling mistake and they also used the same car as on their Crazy Rally marquee instead of the pole position car. Oops!

Oooh, I started scrolling and was going to ask if there has been a night Slashers and psycho soldier...bang, there they are! Great stuff there Matt. I may be hassling you sometime in the future :p

Interesting to note that the artwork on undercover cops is the same as the one that I got off muddy, as in, I thought it had faded somewhat. Looks like they are printed that way after all?

See this patch here below...

Yeah it looks like it's just the way they did the artwork on under cover cops.
There are slight differences between some marquees with fine lines missing when they shouldn't be but that's just down to the screen printing process. Feel free to hassle away.

Some interesting ones in that last lot. Gotta be honest there's a couple of games I've never even heard of!

Gotta say, just puts a big fat smile on my face seeing all these marquees. Takes me back to that time when arcades were at the forefront of gaming technology, streets ahead of anything else, genuinely groundbreaking and exciting.

We lived it.

Yeah, great collection Matt. Fantastic stuff, most of it very rarely seen any more. Some of them are so bad, they're good. Black Tiger, Dragon Ninja

I wonder if ops saved these specifically to put bootleg boards with? Surely they would feel ashamed putting a nice, expensive original pcb inside and then one of those on the front?

Some lovely marquee there Matt and a stunning collection. Quite a few of these I've never seen before, thanks for sharing.

I really like the art on that Strider marquee. And the black 'Prototype' one is pretty cool.

Do you have any idea on the production run of these and which ones are considered the rarest?

Also are there any which you know exist, but are still eluding you?

Cheers Jase.

I would say the rarest ones I have are Warriors of fate, the purple SF2 Turbo, Rastan, Q-bert, Renegade, Truxton, Aliens (cartoon version), SF movie, Art of Fighting, Fatal Fury 2, 1941 (with yellow text). I haven't seen any other copies of those so they could be the only ones left although there could be more out there of course. Quite a few of the others I've only seen maybe 2 of as well.

I did actually ask John Stergides a while ago about production runs but I didn't get an answer to that question I think he answered another question instead. I'm pretty sure they would have been printed in fairly large quantities though as it's more cost effective to have a load printed at once and there was 10s of thousands of EC cabs knocking about. I have a few marquees in which I have 3 or 4 duplicates which all have very minor differences in artwork so they definitely made numerous runs of some titles probably the more popular games.

Yes there are still a few eluding me that I know to exist. Aside from a few colour variants of marquees that I would like, the main ones I know I'm missing are Flying Shark, Raiden and Goblin Buster.
I spotted Raiden amongst the Ireland Goliaths and Flying Shark was in a Goliath sold on Ebay a few years ago along with an R-type Goliath another rare one. As for Goblin Buster, that one is the same art as the Ghosts n Goblins marquee so my best guess is that it was a prototype and they made it before they knew the game would be called Ghosts n Goblins? I've only seen one pic of it. It would be boring if I ever managed to get them all though :)_Matt_2021-07-02 23:40:27
