Originally bodged together a supergun of sorts playing via an Acorn Archimedes monitor, I soon decided I needed to get a proper cab so.....

About 6 years ago or so, first cab was an Electrocoin Goliath Mk3. Lovely cab, good condition, still got it now! In fact, i'm up to about cab 6 now, though that isn't many compared to some!

Second cab was a Hang-On, got this about 4 or 5 years ago off eBay, non working with a missing throttle control. Managed to get a working pcb after several months of trawling eBay, and got a lot of parts (including a set of handlebars) from a stripped one, now all working. I did have the pcb go on me a few weeks ago, so I found another pcb on eBay, and it's decided to start working again without me touching it so i've now got a spare working pcb set!

Third cab, Deal 'Em, got this early-mid last year for peanuts off of eBay. Tatty cabinet round the edges but all working apart from a faulty Hanty 9000 chassis. Ordy determined the chassis was beyond economical repair so I put in a nice newly repaired Hanty 9000 that I'd just got back from him! MPU4 board is a bit faulty here and there - gamble button stops working after about 15/20 mins and the £1 payout doesn't work (board problem, solonoid is fine) but it's all perfectly playable.

Fourth cab, Fruit Cracker MPU4 based fruit machine. Non working, identical cabinet to the Deal 'Em. The actual machine is actually very clean, the game board is the problem. I'm going to strip the Fruit Cracker bits from this eventually and swap the Deal 'Em stuff into this nice clean cabinet.

Fifth cab, Atari System 1. Needs a bit of sorting, I bought it as an empty shell with a few bits left in like the psu and coin mechs etc. I've got a spare monitor, AR3 etc. I've got all the bits to go in apart from a Marble Madness control panel. I have the rest of a Marble Madness kit and a Roadblasters kit.

Sixth cab, Mechanized Attack, haven't actually got my hands on this yet, only agreed a deal last week!

Cheers, Tony

Nice thread, a lot of first cabs seem to be generic (Mame? ) one, like mine too:

But fortunately I also got some real classics, this is my first one (coindoor still needs to be installed):

Ahhhh... first cab... Return of the Jedi picked up in 1992 for nowt as it was dead. When i diagnosed and fixed the problem myself (first one ever) i ran around the garden jumping about. Had one game and the monitor went pop

There was no +5 on the sense line from the AR2 so i bunged a switcher in as a temporary bodge... and it has stayed there for 19 years... i relay must get round to fixing that properly some time

LOL, good thinking Gudd, but you have not seen what it looks like inside, i relay must get it sorted but you know as well as i do that as soon as i fix it "properly" it will blow up! That has been my excuse for the past 19... but new (some might say first time) Bazzone standards insist... NO MULTIPLE POWER SUPPLY'S / MULTIPLE THREE PIN PLUGS on ANY MACHINE!!

hmmm. Mains wires twisted together and done up with sellotape?

smiley17.gif

Now now big K, you know better that that! SAFETY FIRST! We never use sellotape as it is DANGEROUS!

Duct Tape is much better coz it it more sticky and is a nicer colour

It's hard to believe 19 years, I've changes probably 6-8 switchers in the last 15 years powering my 2 or 3 PCs

And they never die in action, it's only when you power them up after being off for a while.

Actually, my best PC power supply has been my SilverStone fanless, it's been switched on permanently now for best part of 10 years and still works perfectly. Well worth the 60 quid I paid for it.

Jeez, your electricty bill must be astronomical! I gave up leaving my server on 24/7, now on from 6pm-12pm saving about £20/month in electricity costs!!

It's only about 75 watts on idle, which is 13+ hours for 1KW, which is what, 30p a day*? That's under a £100 a year, I'd guess. I can handle that.

* I haven't looked at the price of leccy for a long while now.
