The ones on Lois are perfectly readable Tim.

The part is more than just a bus driver incidentally. It may well perform that function, but it also has video coming out of it too.

Cheers James.

I'd not even google for them Gudd as I was being super lazy

As Gudd says it's definitely more than a bus driver. It must have some internal logic because it takes a bunch of Z80 (ctc?) control signals and makes more from them as well as the video.

It looks like something that could be recreated if you had time, a logic analyser, something to drive the inputs a bit like Macro's PAL dumper and the desire. Is this on an accessible card?

Yes, all the cards can be re-arranged as will fit.

Most GORF boards are supposed to have the interface card (Game BD) at the top as this has the DIPs on them so can be accessed from the rear of the cab easily.

Most board sets i've seen have fitted heat sinks to the U3 / U15 chips which prevent them going into slot 2.

The backplane is also explodable as all it does is tie edge lines together and feed voltages to the boards.

You could put the CPU board in the front slot so that U15 is accessible and then attach whatever you need to it.

A very old thread I know but has anyone made any progress with this?
This is what all gorf owners need to keep their abs alive!!!!
I would definatly be interested in a replacement to keep my cab going.

you can find detailed infos about the Bally (AMI) Custom chips here:

there is a vhl source avail. from MikeJ

support@fpgaarcade.com

but this is not 100% complete because he emulates only the parts to run the astrocade games...

All three of them are desperately needed by Gorf, Wizard of Wor, Astrocade, etc owners.

But if there is one to do first I would say U15 which is a C2860D-1, also shown as 0066-116xx.

this videochip is the complex ic of the three :-(

Multiplexed Adress/data Bus

dual Mode Timing (Astrocade / Arcade)

Magic Write Sequencer

Bus Sequencer (for controlling the whole system)

So this is a frustrating job to start first.

and at least: you have almost no space between the pcb boards in the cage (!)

So piggyback the emulator pcb is very hard (I think)

so If I choose this, I only would implement the Arcade part (Gorf/WoW) because this is the only

platform I can hookup my logic Analyzer at the moment.

and test the whole stuff.

I will never do a home / consumer / Astrocade reproduction.

BTW:

Are there paddles / Pots on the arcade games ?

The main pcb with the needed 3 chips like U15 can be put in the cage in any order. That pcb could be at the front so plenty of space.
On a Gorf upright the joystick is on optics but the cocktail and wizard of war are like wico leaf switches.

I too would love these chips to be reproduced like all other Gorf owners.
Please keep us updated if you are able to reproduce them.

Thanks Steve

I have to dig deep in the internal structures of the behaviour of this circuits.

at the moment I collect all material, schematics and datasheets I can get.

Thank you.

Extra bases uses a trackball, Seawolf II uses grays binary, Gorf, Robby & Wiz use joysticks (Wow has 2 leaves in each direction rather than the usual 1 - move slightly one way and character turns to face that way, move further and character moves that way)

so if you left the POT functions out of the sound chip that would only upset people who use the Astrocade home unit. (makes that one somewhat easier!)

Arcade collectors are my target because it would be sad for all the not working gorfs/WOW PCBs forget in dumpster at the and...

yes, no lightpen support and no Pots for now because its complicated enough...

Spartan3E board is ready. installing the IDE at the moment.

Logic analyzer is running, time to check the Bussignals.....
