Hi. Now that ukvac.com is waking from its partial hibernation, I'm interested in knowing how and why people are here.

This is partly to satisfy my curiosity and partly to see how we can best bring ourselves to the attention of people who would enjoy/benefit from being members and also contribute to the enjoyment and benefit of existing members.

Even if you tick choices 1-4 you're still welcome to post in the thread with any extra detail you think is relevant. Basically, I'm hoping the data gathered will help us attract more people like you guys

.

thanks

Found the ukvac egroup thru a general search (think Altavista was my search engine of choice back then too) for "Arcade" and "UK" back in the late 90's. Funnily enough this coincided with buying a house with some room for an arcade machine or two (or 20) :)

Knew this site was here but when I found it (few years ago) this site was barely used.

After the Jamma+ "thing" I started using this site also as I'm not interested in who said what etc.. just want as much arcade info as I can handle and I knew some great arcade legends and knowledge moved over to U.K Vac on that day, so here I am also.

Just a tip, nothing more I think it would get alot more attension if you can get the site pegged up into Google properly as you really have to know it's here to search for it, you would never accidently stumble across it, I have no idea how Google tag websites to certain words or how you get into the top searches in Google but I feel if you type the word ARCADE into Google you need to be up there.

(Depends you may not want that level of attension??)

Thanks

Just my 2p's worth

Hi Paul,

A very good point. There are plans currently in action to get us greater visibility on google and hopefully we'll start to see the fruition of that soon

i knew about the site before i joined. i only joined for a free t/shirt. although i still dont have it. as an executive for a huge conglomerate, it would be an idea to post me 1 out asap in order that i can copy it and send the troops forward. im not going to go into why i joined. apart from as said the more advice available the better. i dont do politics but want a free t, im going through a mid life crisis and the doctor advised on wearing a free t/shirt for a week. i like the extra sections however what about a talking bollocks section this would allow myself and others a place to talk complete sh*te. my only concern for the site is not enough reading. its a bit like the sun newspaper, a quick read then put it down and move on. from what i see we have some very nice people on the site. tech/collectors etc a free big up for some big guys. it seems as though there is a migration on but that doesnt mean this site should be complacent . i and many others use different sites, and will continue to do so. after all the hype lets get it going. 8 weeks ago it was like the deathstar. now its got some life in it, its up to you guys to keep it interesting and useful. i suggest the immediate despatch of a free t/shirt to john bud. whats the worst that could happen, going to an event wearing it ???. i never won a t/shirt on otaku

I joined the Yahoo! group (? It was a while ago and I have lost a few brain cells since then) before it became almost impossible to do so. I seem to recall seeing the UKVAC group listed in the directory and decided to look into it.

This is my first post in just over four years...

I'm a newish member and I heard through word of mouth

I met most of the stalwarts of this community at CGEUK 2005 and I signed up when Rav "converted" the mailing list to a forum.

If truth be told though, I'm more at home on Arcade Otaku where my love of Japanese arcade machines and Mahjong games is more in alignment and not considered quite so wierd

...but I still love you guys

I found the site just after i bought my first cab in 2006 along with J+. As others have said, it was barely being used so i spent a lot more time on J+. Now UKVAC is more lively (Mostly Tim talking crap and thinking up voting polls
smiley2.gif
) i tend to split my time between both and very occasionally visit Arcade Otaku.

I've been a member of UKVAC since way back - late '90's.

I'd owned a few cabs on and off for a while, then came across UKVAC online one day...registered and been here since!

My automatic "the king of cool is being badmouthed" detector spotted this and alerted me. As for your member title, I have nooooooo idea what's doing that. I strongly suspect a bug or that Skynet has become self aware. Have you tried rebooting sir?

i also think swearing is cool
smiley20.gif
smiley16.gif
it has become apparent to me that swearing is indeed interesting. all through my life people have wanted to discuss my swearing. school teachers, bosses every c**t throughout my life has wanted to talk about it. how cool is that
smiley16.gif

sadly though this is usually followed by some sort of punishment
smiley29.gif
some times its hard to be cool.

cheers.
