You can get a Sega JVS I/o like the 838-13683-93 that has a Jamma edge, button 6 is not off the jamma edge but I guess you can run a wire of that pin to the connector for that....there's a long list of JVS i/o's on the ao wiki page

https://wiki.arcadeotaku.com/w/JVS

However that wont power the JVS mobo itself, if its like an taito x2 that has its own separate power input from the wall independant of the jamma cabs psu then your ok, however if its like a Naomi you will need something like the Capcom JVS adaptor (also called Capcom Naomi IO board) instead, but bear in mind that is not powerful enough to run a nett dim setup or GD-rom drive, just carts....

I think you will also need to wire in a sound amp if your using the sega i/o or equivalent like you do when you run a mame-jamma setup, however the capcom jvs adaptor has one in it...

So depending on what your planning to run in the cab will depend on what you need...the capcom JVS i/o takes the extra kick buttons (ie 4,5 & 6) from a kick harness on CPS2 not from the jamma edge....

They're aren't any - the Sega/Taito/Capcom ones all need some type of "kick" harness for buttons 5 & 6.

The Sega V2 and Capcom ones (with the power leads) only output enough power to run Naomi cart systems and are unstable running a DIMM and won't power a Namco 246/256. So you will need a JVS PSU or an ATX PC PSU and adapater to power the PCB.

I have a Chinese knock-off of the Capcom JVS-JAMMA one - I'll check to see if that will do it.

As for JVS systems:-

Naomi/Naomi2,

Taito Type-X/X2/X3/X-Zero,

Namco 246/256.

Pretty sure x3's HDD's are hardward locked to the one game...its not something I have tried to buy and use but also you might find they are FAST IO only not JVS...others can comment on that as I am no expert on X3's, they might be dual JVS & Fast IO,...

With X2's, there are a few multi disks you can get so they are a better place to start with imo, yes a sega JVS I/O should work with it (im using one with an X2 but you can never guarentee compatibility but I have never run into problems with either the Sega I/o or the capcom one) however the sound out of an X2 is from a stereo jack plug like a PC, so you would need to wire that into an amp to boost the volume and then into Jamma cabs speakers/jamma loop....

If you get the capcom one it has the sound amp and some rca inputs on it and will route to the jamma edge amplified (has a volume control on it too), so I would recomend that as the more all in one solution for a Jamma cab personally...only limitation is its carts only as mentioned before if your running a naomi powered of it, X2's not an issue as it runs off a seperate plug to the wall as it has its own PSU inside....you can also get a seperate JVS psu to run the naomi anyway if you go down the net dimm etc route...

Guys so let me get this straight. Using the sega io (one with extra buttons on jamma harness)
Will i be able to run a taito x2 without extra kick harness or any extra wiring?
I know i need a sound amp bit thats ok. Also will the sega io output to 15 khz ?
So that means i can also use it on my tv with supergun right?Markitanis2019-05-02 19:50:54

No.

I have tried it and you need to connect to the kick loom connector on the io to get all 6 buttons working.

Neither the sega or capcom converters have all 6 buttons on the jamma connector.

The sega one also suffers from coining errors on some games unless your cab has a coin meter connected (you can spoof one using a resistor between +5v and the coin meter pin).

The sega V2 converter (in the black box) has built in audio amp just like the capcom one so to amplify x2 audio you'll need a 3.5mm stereo Jack plug to 2 phono plugs lead.

None of the jvs-jamma converters contain scan converters and just pass through whatever is input via the VGA plug.

If we are talkling about the 838-13683-93 (I dont know if all sega jvs I/o's are the same pinout, that page I put the link to goes over each one I think) yes but only up to button 5 on the jamma edge, button 6 is on another connector on the I/O so that still needs to be wired up sep to work. Theres a jumper on the i/o that sets it that way, info on that page again. I think the jamma edge on the i/o is completly standard jamma pinout,

I know i need a sound amp bit thats ok. Also will the sega io output to 15 khz ?

The I/o does not change the video signal in anyway so its down to the system your plugging ins output options, X2 for example is only 31khz or 720p, theres no 15khz mode...Naomi has a dip switch for a 15khz mode or 31khz....

I only use the i/o as a key encoder for the system, I usually plug the VGA from the system straight into my monitors VGA port....Ive never even tested the video passthrough the I/o in fact, so I cant say if it even works well...

So that means i can also use it on my tv with supergun right?

As above, no for x2, maybe yes for naomi on 15khz if the i/o passes through the signal as Id expect but never tested....

This link is the sega I/o i was referring to, I only have experience with that or the capcom jvs I/o

I have no idea if the one you’ve linked to if that’s made by sega and what the pinout is on the Jamma edge, hopefully someone else knows about that adaptor.....steling12019-05-02 21:57:50
