Hi guys, this raid isn't as epic as some of the ones posted here but I thought I'd share it with you all
smiley1.gif

An advert on Gumtree came up back end of last week for a Star Wars Racer arcade machine, as it was local I phoned the guy to enquire about and he told me he had some other arcade machines there too, so on Saturday Big Phil, Fat Apollo and myself had a trip down to a warehouse in Sunderland to check out what this guy had

Some of the machine's we spotted were this Konami cab, have no idea what it is !

These are the controllers for it...

IMG_1338.JPG

Any idea what it is ?

Control/seat section of a Sega 18 Wheeler...

IMG_1365.JPG

The screen section was in the warehouse but was behind a load of crap and we couldn't get it to get any good photo's

Part of a Sega Jurassic Park cab...

IMG_1366.JPG

Again, there was another section to this but we couldn't get in to get any photo's

Also spotted this monster Sega cab

IMG_1340.JPG

The guy assured us it worked but it looked rough

This would look mint in Big Phil's garage...

IMG_1367.JPG

The rest of the of the warehouse was full of tat spotted boxes and boxes of World Cup '98 key rings and pallets full of this...

IMG_1368.JPG

Anyway I was interested in the Sega Star Wars Racer and the guy had two so we decided to have a look at them

The control/seat pods were together in one part of the warehouse, one of the screens somewhere else and the other screen behind loads of stuff with the other 18 Wheeler/Jurassic Park bits !

Pulling the first Star Wars control Pod out...

IMG_1341.JPG

Upon closer inspection at the back it was full of sh*t and chewed wires...

IMG_1343.JPG

Pulling the PCB boards out revealed the same
smiley19.gif

IMG_1346.JPG

The wooden mounting board was covered in sh*t and the even the PCB's were. A lot of wires had been chewed through and the little feckers had probably pee'd all over them too
smiley19.gif

Pulling the second control pod out...

IMG_1348.JPG

This time the boards looked a lot better with only a handful of poo !

IMG_1349.JPG

As we couldn't test the cab on site we decided to split the control/seat section

We took off the metal plates on the sides and then realised this bloody big metal plate was holding the two sections together. Time to get it on it's side...Geedup !

IMG_1352.JPG

Whilst me and Big Phil were doing this Fat Apollo was removing the boost button assembly from the other control pod as the one we wanted had a chunk of plastic missing...

IMG_1356.JPG

He made a new friend too
smiley4.gif

IMG_1351.JPG

We were ready to load up so started moving the sections towards the loading bay...

IMG_1360.JPG

IMG_1362.JPG

Bracket on right hand side of screen sectiion had been mangled off and wooden mounts damaged plus it was missing. Should fill over ok plus somehow Big Phil managed to squeeze himself through mountains of junk to remove the bracket from the second screen !

Finally after a couple of hours we got my van loaded, it all fit like a glove
smiley1.gif

006.JPG

Drove back home parked the van up had a good scrub and then we we're out to my local for some proper good ales !

Sunday we dropped the cab off. My cousin has a good size unit on an industrial estate near to me where he repairs cars/does engine conversions so he had plenty of space

Big Phil gave the insides of the cab a good hoover to remove any dust/crap whilst Fat Apollo and myself gave the exterior a good old clean up

Time to plug it all together and fire it up...

002.JPG

Nowt on screen
smiley19.gif

Boards appear to be working...

007.JPG

Then the screen came to life
smiley1.gif

003.JPG

Good bit of burn on it but once in the game it looks ok, amazed it still worked !

Obviously I had to have first go on it
smiley4.gif

IMG_1378.JPG

Then a few more test pilots...

005.JPG

008.JPG

So all in all it was a good weekend !

I know it's a huge feck off cab but I'm lucky I've got space to store it !

The guy who had all the cabs had pulled them from Metroland at the Metrocentre in Gateshead but as any local knows Metroland went years ago so these cabs have been sitting for some time but I'm chuffed mine works and it was a good price
smiley32.gif

Massive thanks to Big Phil and Fat Apollo and also me cousin for storing it for me !

Cheers !

Sold off a lot of my cabs recently and when I saw the ad come up and with the bonus of it being local, I knew I had to go and investigate

it's a Hikaru boardset so be careful moving it!

In hindsight I wish I had taken the other board set but they were caked in crap

I take my hat off to Big Phil for pulling this board out for inspection

Cool machine

Just drop a 50-52" Lcd TV in there and it will be perfect

Wash your mouth out sir!

Much better (in my humble opinion) would be to retube the projector. Fairly simple to do if you have the right tubes, most projection TV's carry the correct tubes, even 16:9 ones (they just used less of the tube), and they can be picked up for very little these days. There's a really good video about the process on youtube somewhere.

In fact, some cabs just used domestic tv's (don't know if this is one of them though) so if you can find the right model you can just slot another straight in!tb20002014-09-22 22:36:42

Yeh Stevros,
F355 Challenge Deluxe. There was one at Play Expo last year that I managed to get a quick go on (when the family who had pushed in decided that 15 games for junior with other people waiting was finally enough..grrrrr)
.
In 'full' mode (I've forgotten what it's called), the gear shift is 'locked' by the clutch so you have to change gear like a real car. Superb piece of arcade machinery :) Hard game, would definately be one to benefit from long term play.

Was this one the same as the one at Play Expo last year?

Remember seeing it as one of the screens was off but this beast looked massive !
