Well this weekend I took a veery long drive to partake in a little mini raid.
Quite literally, this was for a couple of Dino Kings

But it wasn't an 'op raid' as such. I visited FrancoB as he'd very kindly given me first dibs on his Dino King project cabs as he was selling them on.
My interest in these fellas (other than that I dont have a row of 10 yet?) - well they have full 31Khz monitors (and remote boards!) and one has Franco's superbly designed vertical monitor mount / meaning the cab can be TATE'd. Also nice things like a lit marquee topper, and stereo speaker mounts up top, like an astro city:

Then all manner of Sega bits and bobs from within the cabs, a spare 14" tube + chassis, more loom wire than I can handle, some metal control panels and more:

And finally some Naomi mobos for 31Khz gaming, and a stack of PCBs!

So quite a bit to get working on!
Niether of the cabs are 'complete' as such - the monitors are currently powered directly from a separate mains cable, so I plan to sort out joint JVS / Jamma wiring running from Naomi PSU's on these, and get them complete as stand alone and linked units!

Awesome stuff, it sounds like FrancoB has made some awesome mods, especially the vertical monitor mount. That's a fantastic stack of PCB's as well.

Glad you got them home in one piece mate. Was great to meet you too

I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with them and hopefully you have them the time and will needed to finish them off which sadly is something I don't have.

They're in fact tri-sync monitors. They have a Chungwa tube IIRC (maybe Dave can confirm the tube number) and a Rodotron CH-666A-29 chassis. I bought them new from Jeff At Digital Systems Designs when he was still around. The picture on them is awesome

Some bloody awesome PCB's too. Do you know yet if they're all workers?

They all boot up and run yes

But I've not done thorough testing yet.

The Bomb Jack & Arkanoid PCBs are particular faves - Bomb Jack has a highscore save mod and is original, Arkanoid is a white PCB I've not seen in the flesh before, but I need a proper spinner (or two!) for it.

R-Type is actually a Major Title and I had a good play on that last night. But it has all the bits required for the conversion, which I plan to perform once I've done my own R-Type Leo conversion which is my next project.

Tekken seems to play OK, but I need to check the button 4 / kick harness stuff to make sure that is working properly.

Guerilla War sadly is outputting grounding noise on the audio pins and isn't giving off any proper game audio.
I may need to get an audio probe to diagnose if this the amp gone or something more sinister - but it is playing

Wow nice. When I'm an old man and have shrunk to 4 foot in height I'm going to wish I'd bought up all these dinokings.
I am both old, and pre-shrunk. So it's great I need no more excuses!

Nice little stash there. Can't have too many dinos I'm sure :)
I think Flinnster is slowly cornering the market on dino-kings :p

Tri sync in a dino king! Unusual and very cool :)
I all seriousness I really don't need any more. But given the cool mods on these I made an exception! Hopefully I can do them justice!

I can confirm when I'm next able to take a look at them!

They do look pretty spectacular in hi-res mode. I just need some recommendations for good 31Khz games now!

On a related note, someone messaged me at some point (I lost the message, sorry) - saying that a Phillips CM8833 monitor tube is a straight drop into a Dino King for size. I am ashamed now to say that in a pre-house move clearance I took one of these to an IT recycling place where it turned out they'd have 'disposed' it.. I thought it would go to someone who'd actually use it.
They are now around £100 on ebay

the artwork on the machines look great, it'd be a shame to remove them.

All to be decided depending on how the projects go. Like some of the others I have these are not perfect - one side of the Dino one is scratched up compared to the other side which is pretty minty. I wish I could transplant the good vinyl from the side of one cab to another, but that's unlikely to go without a hitch!

I approve of this post.

Nice haul there Dave

I’m pretty sure you’ll do those Dino cabs justice

Don’t suppose you got any of the original Sega locks or keys with them did you?

No original Dino locks I'm afraid
smiley19.gif
Both of these were without locks.
I did get some Sega 5380's but they are destined for an Astro City.
I'll likely be using the same radial locks + modified tangs for these.
