Have had a Zac Cab brought from Olly (Mudddymusic) for a while now. Today is the day I started its resto/conversion

Most of the Original Zac parts have been sold to collectors so this will be a dedicated cab of another board

erm.... I'm a bit confused here

It's a zacc cab and you sold the bits, so on these cabs they have specific things like the coin door as an example. They also have fantastic artwork on them which seems to have gone? So basically there's nothing zacc left about it?

I'm not sure what cab you got from Olly but please don't say you've removed the artwork, coin door, etc to take everything that makes a zacc cab great

to replace it with a 7 button panel, etc. If you have why didn't you use a generic jamma cab?

I so hope I'm wrong

What you mean this beautiful looking cab...

I am completely dumbstruck at what is going through peoples heads nowadays... a lovely looking orignal cab with stunning artwork and a nice bezel design... nah, lets rip it all out, respray it and stick lots of buttons on it. That will definitely double half its value...

For me this hobby is about preservation

This. I would've used a generic cab for this rather than something as iconic as a zac. Good luck with the conversion though.

guys the artwork was shot on it

it had deep scratches, the truth is i brought the cab for the art but that artwork was dead and the cost to get it redone was way not worth while

the coin door was revived and sold to a zac keeper again it needed
rechroming and locally was to expensive

the bezel i cant even give it away i still have it, so not sure whats so great about zac

i just decided it needs to be changed considering the flaws

those original photos don't show the deep scratches in the artwork so it had to go

one last thing it had been mullered in the first place with the weird commando marquee and the plastic control panel overlay

so it was only logical to just commit blasphemy and change it

I would only remove artwork like that if I know I could replace it and make it look like the original or better. Is this your plan?

If the artwork is unique or not easily replaceable then I'd look at options of using what is there and try and repair it or make it look better than it is

Okay so im looking at both side’s of the coin on this one.
For example, I drive a 1967 Morris Minor…… yet I have painted it with a roller, stripped out the dash and fitted custom gauges along with a bigger motor….
I know people think Ive destroyed her and she should be restored…. But she’s mine! I’ll do what the hell I want!
End of the day, there’s companies out there that can make Bezels, side art and what ever else you want to near perfect to the original….
We may not all agree with a project, but lets not judge to harshly…..
After all, he’s not mameing it!!!

Yes you are totally right... but when there are so many generic woody cabs that already have no side art, let alone some beautiful iconic looking artwork, if you are thinking of converting a generic cab then why not choose one of the multitude of other woody cabs for sale and that wouldn't cost £190.

And with a control panel that has 7 buttons per player this is certainly not destined to be converted to a dedicated cab for a classic 70s or 80s game. Come to think of it... are there any games that need 7 buttons..? So I can only think that this will be a generic cab that will run everything from Neo Geo MVS to Street Fighter... so again I question why you would not use one of the many 'blank' generic woody cabs as the basis for a project as no-one would then give two hoots.

But as you say... you can do what you want with your own cab... just a shame for the community and collectors to lose another 'non-generic' cab.

And as for the car analogy, you could quite easily put it back to its original state... but I would love to see somone try and get the side art be stuck back on.

hell no im not MAMEing it

i brought the cab with 2 original intentions and one was going to win over the other.

It was either going to be a Dedicated Zaccaria Hyper sport which i have the PCB for or a Dedicated Zaccaria Frogger again i have a PCB

i even looked at a new marquee and bezel for it before i got the cab

but then the cab arrived via Martin and it looked awful on the sides.
scratched, and dented where it had prob been moved and got scraped all along the side really deep

the paint had to scrathed but there was a deep dented line across it, the reason it didn't scratch is because it had been varnished so many times in its life it was actually 4mm thicker than it should be measuring 22mm thickness when in fact the wood should only be 18mm

i looked into getting necessary repairs done but too expensive, the art is stencilled and paint on, its not vinyl. so it would need scanning and new stencil made and then stencilled on direct to cab sides all after removing that varnish and original artwork paint. i even looked into selling the cab to a zac collector as is, but even at £190 collectors where not interested

The only logical money saving thing i could do and not loose the £190 i invested in it was to drastically fix it by means of changing.

while the weather was rubbish i had loads of ideas and just couldn't decide so i went with a universal cab as rog has noticed, from MVS to street fighter to anything.

i respect every ones views here and opinions but this thread was merely to show my progress not to get ripped as to what the hell have i done. after all Olly was selling it an no one wanted it so i stepped up. if there was such a love for it to stay as it is it should have been purchased by someone wanted to keep it as is flaws and all, but then again everyone that asked me to buy that cab after i got it and saw the flaws walked away from it because of those flaws

its like buying a car from the auto trader, see the pics go and see it and then notice other stuff. same here i purchased if from pictures and you all are seeing pictures, only me and olly really know what the sides looked like and they where bad. so when people see it its like ok thanks and walk away. something in all honesty i should have done if i had actually gone and saw it.

although no fault of olly's he sold the cab sold as seen, that i repect.
