Nintendo Vs test bench

Has anyone setup a Nintendo Vs test bench before?

I've got two pooped boards that I wouldn't mind trying to get working.
First one seems to be ok with one game but as soons as you put two games
on it seems to reset and goes screwy.

The other one pcb produces lines on the screen and resets.

I have a Nintendo AV-01 (which hopefully works), and have looked at the
pinouts and the 24v is only required for the coin mech so looks like it
should be fairly easy to setup on a adaptor for a Jamma Supergun so I can
work on it outside of the cabinet, on a standard TV.

I would be interested if anyone has any knowledge of this or has done it before?

I have a Jamma adapter of this
But you're dead right, problem comes with 2 sets of roms
As I understand it vs mario which I have is fine with my adapter
But say vs tennis which could output to 2 different monitors is where it becomes weird (so 2 lots or rgb etc... From the same pcb)
Also you could run 2 different games on the same pcb but to either side of a vs red tent
I'm sure it will be easy if you study all the pinouts for all the games, plus read in depth about the vs. system online
I also seem to remember vs. mario only runs on the right side of the pcb due to it being a 1 monitor only game!
There is a good site on it all somewhere, sorry can't think of it right now
I'm sure you could make a loom up but you need to be able to swap bits of it depend on what game or even games your running on the board
Good luck and I'm sure you can suss it all out yourself without my ramblings lol, but if you need pics or pinouts of mine I'm sure I could compare it to my vs Jamma setup
I too have the av01 setup as well, but looks like homemade adapter
Mikes arcade sells it all ready made but it's a good few quid especially when posted to uk
He even have a clone av01 pcb made, check his site!
Hope this helps ya even if just a wee bit
Nice to see someone else into it to be honest
I have 2x mario cpu/protection chips plus all needed roms twice
Also another cpu/protection chip which can run excitebike and golf (also some homemade EPROMs for the games that go with that cpu)
Don't know if ya know all this that they have to go with certain CPUs

Chubsta - very kind offer. Thank you. I might take you up on that

Paulcan- I should explain that I have a Red Tent and I'm fairly familiar with this :)

http://www.ukvac.com/forum/after-10-months-it-is-here-nintendo-red-tent_topic335901.html

The faults appear on the Red Tent so I know I have PCB issues. Other PCB's with games on both sides work fine. You are right about certain games not being able to play on one side, but Mario is not one of them. Ice Climber is though

I will plug away with my setup. I am 1/4 there I think already. The difficulty will be in how to handle the second screen, but I'm concentrating on one screen at the mo.

Thanks for the input. Definately good to see other people interested in this

Well not the greatest of starts

I've built the adaptor and am getting nothing on screen. No problem with the power to the PCB. I checked this out before plugging in the board.

The fault is with the AV-01, as this takes the video, inverts it, and then sends it to the adaptor. No working inverter = nothing on screen - at least I think this is correct :)

I've got the schemes for the PCB, which is a fairly simple board to be honest, so should be fairly easy to problem solve.

First check I did was to see if it was getting power. 12v - working, 5v dead - so a starting point at least!

Run the video non-inverted for now? It'll look god-awful, but it'll work and allow you to see if the PCB works.

Cheers Martin, I've thought about that, but it means hacking into the loom as it currently goes:

PCB > Inverter > Adaptor

I'm fairly certain I can get the AV-01 working. It really is a simple board. If I can't then, I'll do as you have suggested

I'd be tempted to connect some wires to the solder points on the underside of the input plug on the AV-01 temporarily. I'm assuming an AV-01 is what I'm thinking it is in my mind. I have one and it has like an Ampex Mate n Lok on it I think so there should be solder points on the underside of the PCB you could piggyback the signals from.

[EDIT] Should have googled first! Yeah, it is the one I'm thinking of! OK, so it's not Make n Lok but you should still be able to do it.

Yeah just thought about it, no need to hack into the loom. I'll get a connector (it does look like Mate N Lok) and bypass the intervter. Cheers Martin!

EDIT - Yeah it is a 6 pin Mate N Lock female connector that I need
