I'm definitely in for the Pi5 once there's some reasonable non-bloatware images for it. If the video out works on one jamma adaptor board of course it'll work with all of them, don't fall for the marketing hype of whoever is shouting first!
I do wonder if we'll be able to make homebrew versions again? Surely nothing much has changed?
I'm not that bothered about super modern stuff but it would be nice to have Taito F3, sprite scalers, maybe up to Sega STV or Naomi for some of the shooters there, running at a nice framerate. These are all things the pi3b's struggle with.

There are some config commands to tighten up the USB polling times to reduce a bit of latency, but yeah, I don't think -any- emulation will ever match 1:1 with real hardware timings on that, given Jamma controls are so direct / simple electronically compared to USB or pad hacks that use multiplexers / encoders to deal with the input signals on fewer wires.

Crikey! I hope I can be sorted out by all you legends that know what you're doing! I was just gonna bung an emulator on. I'll keep it in the packet until it's useful to me!

I absolutely love tech specs and latency specs 😍

Just not sure my brain is wired quite right to get that technical, even though I'd like it to be! 😆

Mine has been posted and likely to be used just for Kodi for now, as my 3b is not so good now keeps stuttering. I like kodi as a player as uses cec, switches my TV on and I can watch films of my hard drive. I dont bother with dodgy streams.

I needed a case as it will go under the TV, this can switch fan on and off , and as I am anal about fan noise hoping will be worth it !

Argon NEO Pi 5 BRED Raspberry Pi 5 Case × 1

I am part of the coinops discord so will keep an eye out for their build dropping for the pi 5 !

*** there is a build dropping on arcadepunks" but not a great fan of that site***

I do have a login still.

Hopefully the issues I experienced with Kodi on the Pi4 have been long resolved. There was horrendous screen tearing that had something to do with the GPU drivers last time I tried it, which admittedly was a caravan holiday about three years ago.

You'll never tear me away from the Shield TV for Kodi stuff. Bulletproof (so long as you don't let it auto-update Kodi, in which case, not so much).

For Kodi I’ve found the ODROID C4 much better from a hardware acceleration and multimedia support perspective. And the C2 before it was better than a Pi for Kodi as well.

Legends? Err.. it's all relative. I am not really a specialist I just ended up making a bunch of them for a load of cabs!
I just hope Chunksin and Virtvic still have time to tinker, that's all I'm saying!

I also have an arcade stick with pi inside that remains an unfinished project. This was to be a super convenient 'shove it on the TV' solution, so straight out to HDMI. Strikes me that pi5 would be good to upgrade that one too, given 15Khz out isn't a concern.

Yes your probably right. TBH I found the pi 3b cheap (60'ish with case) and cheerful and just seemed to work reallly well with my AMP and TV with CEC etc, really easy for all family to use. You switch it on , it turns tv and amp on and all the sound just works with the amp !. Part of the idea of the pi was it's cheapness but TBH i think I must of spent about £120 on this pi5 with power supply and case which in hindsight I could of looked into a better solution for my needs, which is MOVIE playeing of a harddrive but simplicity !. I've always fancied a shield but the pro at £18o is quite a lot for the weekly movies I watch ! I actually have SFF's and a nice Mini pc for mame etc. Perhaps should flip it on ebay :) This would cover a shield !!!

Just why are people that desperate ! I would expect free postage at least !!!

I missed out on the 4 as did not seem much of an upgrade.

OMG the emulation image although beta is bloody fantastic on my pi5 8gb.. Loads really fast and massive selection of games.
My only issue is I managed to get KODI working but cannot for life of me get CEC enabled, which is supposed to be enabled in Batocera by default.

Its a shame as I want to use this for KODI and now this lovely emulation build. But without CEC its a nightmare for me and my amp TV set up.

I am having issues with my case and micro HDMI lead though.
I bought a Argon NEO Pi 5 BRED Raspberry Pi 5 Case × 1 and a U green Micro HDMI 2.1 cable from amazon

Unlike my pi3b which has a full HDMI port when you plug a cable in it is nice and tight and some of the metal is still exposed.
The issue with the pi5 case and seems to be a general pi case issue is the micro hdmi port is slightly embedded in the case, so when you plug your micro hdmi cable in , its not pushing in as far as it really should. So the result on my pi 5 is you move the case you loose the picture ! The case does tend to move as I press the power on button. As much as I like to try and jam the cable in harder its crappy.

Has anyone had a case and a cable they are happy with. I think this is a matter of getting the right cable that is a a tiny bit longer on the metal ! It is just not pushed in far enough so any slight movement I loose the picture :(

TBH the pain with this case I did not notice is you screw in a cover over SD card too. I never had that with my flirc, that was easy to swap SD card.

I look at all these and most Micro HDMi's are inset, so think it is a matter of getting a tight/longer cable, I dont want to cut the case !

Ideallly I need a case with a fan that only kicks in if it needs to, as most of time I wasnt to use this for playing movies. I tested a few films that failed on my pi3b and play without issue on pi5

I do find it weird so many people have this issue with cases and micro Hdmi connection. My 3b hdmi port was as tight as a ...... !!

I made a bit of a mistake, As I ordered the case and also the heatsink and fan, the case comes with a smaller heatsink and fan already, I decided to use the separate heat sink and fan as it looked more substantial

the fan only comes on when needed. it comes on a boot up for a second or so. then goes off.
I've not used it for any great length of time though. 1 hour max!!
