Hi Guys

i've been busy on this one for a while but only just had chance to knock the first prototype together.

jvs_switcher.jpg

this basically allows you to switch between different Naomi/Chihiro/triforce driving games and re-maps the controls without having to switch pins on the IO all the time, just a simple turn of the rotary switch to any one of the 3 pre-defined pinouts.

This is installed directly to the IO and I have used the same JST RA connectors so the 4 wires that you need to remove from the IO can be reused in the RA input header without having to cut any of the existing wiring, this also allows that whole thing to be reversed should you want to remove it.

Will do a proper write up and refine my design abit,if anyones interested I may also make some to sell on.

Thanks to all that have provided me with pins & connectors etc to get this finished.

Great idea, I'm very interested in this! I take it the rotary switch toggles between specific games and not the different mobos as sometimes there are different controls that need mapping even on the same mobo setup? For instance iD and Crazy Taxi are both Naomi but require the gear shift pinouts changing.

What have you had it working with so far? Mario Kart + OR2/iD?

Good work - I'd be interested if you decided to make a few to sell

Yes its game specific & not mobo specific.

Tested working games so far.

ID 1,2,3
Outrun 2
Jambo Safari
Craxy Taxi
Crazy Taxi High Roller
Mari Kart GP 1,2
Club Kart European Session

Dont have the pinouts for Maxtune 1 & 2 shifter so havent tested this yet but it works in Auto & I dont have 18 wheeler or Route 66 to test, I think they have some extra controls Microphone etc.

just makes switching games much easier.

Also need to do some testign with differnt I/O's to confirm the pinouts are the same, although if there were different it would still work, just need to plug the output wires into their required positions.

Nice, I haven't got a Triforce mobo in my collection yet so no MK1/2 for me.

I have 18 Wheeler, but it would be tricky to get this working 100% without the stock gear shifter as you have hi/lo and reverse gear. I guess reverse or the horn could be mapped to the start button but as iD/OR2 has a sequential shifter you need to hold the shifter in 'Hi' position otherwise it jumps back to 'Lo'.

Other than this it's quite playable as-is (except for the horn being constantly on!) and is actually pretty similar to driving a truck as for once the big iD wheel is actually suitable for the game!!

As I'm sure you know Maximum Tune uses a 6 speed gated gear shifter so not sure how this would translate into a sequential shifter either.

Setch, any progress on this? I'm currently looking into the same problem; how to run several of the jvs drivers in my cab (converted club kart prize naomi uni upright). I've compiled a list of inputs for various games, for the 60pin header on the sega type 1 jvs io. I was considering a far more low tech solution however, simply employing some jst connectors and wiring adapters as needed, so I'm very interested in your work :)

One thing I can contribute is king or route 66 is playable without the mic, so long as you have a 4 button panel (add some buttons or a lift a vr panel from another game). There is an option in the game assignments to turn the mic off, the start button then doubles as a nitro button and the wiper button becomes a "yes" button to activate convoy combo. So you just need Start, View, Horn and Wiper buttons and can ditch the mic. The only bit I'm not 100% on is if the game expects a sequential shifter or if it locks into the drive/reverse position. Having to hold the shifter in the up position all the time wouldn't be ideal.

Anybody got a wiring diagram for 18 wheeler that uses the sega type 1 jvs io (837-13551-92)? It's the only one I can't find.

Hi Spectre

Well the project is pretty much done & I have my prototype working in my CTHR upright, I've been meaning to make another for my sitdown and once I have the build refined I can make some more but I have a few other projects that need finishing first.

I did revise the wiring as version 1.0 was created when slightly stoned and I got the whole bloody thing back to front and it didn't work but this is now sorted.

I left 18 wheeler & route 66 out as the mapping required for extra buttons does not make it feasible unless you have a 4 button panel, which most will not.

Also if your mapping out the controls you will notice that you have at least 4 different variants and a minimum of 3 inputs, so fitting it all together without any electronics was a bit of a head f**k as you need to be able to use the same buttons across different pins and this causes a problem with other games :(

I was trying to make a universal solution but even the current set-up requires a minimum of 2 buttons as the Start or View button cannot be a universal switch for all games (something I overlooked in 1.0) you can use 1 button setup but then you cant map the item button in MKGP1/2

If people want these made, I can either provide a universal 2 button solution or depending on what your button layout is like I could devise an alternative mapping solution.

Hi Setch,

I'd be definitely interested in 3 of these! Can you give an estimate of the time that it will take that you'll be starting to make these for public?

Still working on my cabs refurbishing and all and was starting to look for solutions for the whole wiring thing, but this is brilliant, so I don't need to invent the wheel again ;)

So no big rush, but would be nice to have an estimate. Btw I'm planning on putting a 4 button Scud Race dash in my ID cab to make things more versatile. Can we work with that?

Thnx so far and keep it up!

Is it just a simple mechanical switch to bridge the relevant connections, or is there more going on under the hood? Regardless, I'd be interested in one depending on price

In the mean time I'm going to soldier on with my own solution, if anybody can confirm/contribute to this I would appreciate it (for 837-13551-92 sega jvs io);

I'm yet to decide whether to add a 3rd and 4th button to my cab to make 18 wheeler and kor66 playable.

yes, nothing special is going on in the box really, 3 inputs mapped to about 10 (can remember the exact number) outputs, the trick is doing it in a way that it wont affect any other games or short out the IO in anyway.

The only thing special is that I have used the same connectors & pins as used on the I/O so you don't need to cut/chop any wires and it can then be easily removed, takes less than 5 mins to install as well.

I've no idea about time scale yet, I have some more cabs incoming and need to sell 4 as well so this has taken priority.

The next step for me is to make another for my sitdown with M3 dash which has the extra view buttons but not sure I can make it as simple due to the extra inputs & outputs needed for things like 18 wheeler etc.

Spectre, I think I have all the information you are missing from your document but its on my laptop so will need to dig it out tonight, I think the CTHR pins might be slightly wrong as well, when I tested it I found they did not match the CT pinout well not on my CTHR machine anyway, could be differnt I/O but again will check this.

MKGP 1/2 item button is pin 35 that's all you need to worry about with this, there is a "BACK" button in MKGP2 but I have never bothered or needed it in the game.

I should post this here too in case it gets missed..

Good idea, one to make the switcher and two to bring all the info together in one place as info is all over the place at the moment!

You can play Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune (1 & 2) in a JVS cab without any modification - it's Namco but is a Chihiro Type 3 game. Limitations are that there's no feedback, card reader or manual shift possible. Wangan uses a 6 speed shifter so a re-map of pins wouldn't cut it. I haven't looked into the view change button situation as this doesn't work but I'm happy with the default behind/above the car view.

Will probably need a different shifter for 18 Wheeler and KOR66 full compatibility too as a standard CT or OR2 cab just has the up/down shifter - no reverse and you have to hold the gear shifter in place to stay in high gear in the truck games.

Setch, I'd also be interested in a switcher, particularly for initialD/OR2/CT/CTHR.
