Hi im new to this forum and this is my first post.
I own a twin sega rally arcade for about 4 years all has been fine but recently it developed a graphics glitch where the spectators would appear in the air and on the 3rd course the car would start in the air.

swapping over the boards i isolated the fault to the cpu board. i deciced to take the plunge and order a new working board off ebay which has arrived and i've plugged it in, it needed a few system adjustments as was set to japanm not freeplay ect, easy reconfigured. All looked positive bar i cant get he start button to work, i thought it may be the start button on that cab so i swapped the boards over and the start button fault now appears on the other cab. Is there something im missing or is it possible this new board has a fault with the start button. ps in the maintenance menu all controls respond bar start and view change.

i thought the jumper settings on the board may differ but they all appear to be the same

any pointers much appreciated.

Thanks

Mickyc

it was only the cpu board that was swapped out so the cage and filters are the same, the start button issue follows the cpu board, suggesting the issue is with that.

Sounds like a cpu board fault to me also. I had one once with the same problem.
Try contacting the seller to see what they say. If it follows the same fault to the other side of the cab sounds like that’s the problem.

It should be a button inside the coin door, it just adds credits/starts the game, there is also a tiny little button on the cpu board that should do the same. Kev A2019-03-22 09:01:22

I doubt the schematics of those are public. Maybe the seller just checked the board but never really checked if all io was working.

You can check the connectors that plug into the filter board. Maybe there are some pins broken off or just bend over.

You can also check where the start button signal arrives on the filter board. (should be in the manual) and try to trace it to the proper connector of the cpu board. Check the cpu board for physical damage around that area.

Those 2 buttons on the cpu board are same as test and service they both operate. Now strange thing is if I set it off free play. It auto starts and actually works. Soon as game ends it auto starts again. The view and start buttons are still ignored. I've swapped cabinets and swapped cpu boards the fault follows this cpu board. Checked all connector pins look fine.

Well on coins, if you insert coins you have to press start
On freeplay I believe you have to press start.

What Im wondering for you is... If on working side, test powering on holding start, if it does nothing on free play, and it starts a game on credit mode like on broken board, then it could mean start is stuck on as you have recreated the issue

Thing is I've swapped the board to both sides does same, and working board works on both sides, but i do believe whatever the fault is with the board its replicating the start being held down, real shame as apart from that it works fine

So on working non faulty cpu board....

Holding start on freeplay does nothing

Holding start on credit mode, auto starts it

is this why yo conclude the fault is a start button pressed on the board?

And back to what you said earlier about the fault does...

Holding start on credit mode, auto starts it and while still holding start does view not work? Just to confirm its fully replicated.

Also have you contacted seller of new board that is faulty?

When you go into the service menu and into the inputs section are the start and view buttons show as permanently on. If not are they responsive in there?

Sorry i should have mentioned those buttons are dead even in the service menu test when used with this cpu board, on a plus point the supplier has shipped me a new board. Its a real shame as the game actually runs fine with this board just the start button issue.

It would be interesting to check the continuity all the way from the filter board to the chip on the cpu board that it eventually connects to. The traces on M2 boards are so small what looks like a tiny mark can turn out to be a broken trace and could be sorted by a little patch wire. Was it yanton you got the board from? Hes normally pretty good at sending replacement boards if you have issues.
