Decided to pay a visit to an op I used to visit 8 years ago, not only has he closed down but the whole area is a new housing development.

50+ houses on the site it, sold at the high of the property boom I doubt he's still trying to punt pool tables around pubs, more likely retired to warmer climates

Dreary housing estates.... where hope and individuality go to die. Last time I took a drive along the south coast road from Brighton to Chichester I was shocked how many fields/woods were being bulldozed with signs outside saying 'exclusive development of just (insert large number) luxury apartments', etc, etc. It was the same story a decade or more back when all the local businesses in barns (eg my local mechanic) vanished to be replaced by multi million pound barn conversions, frequented by overly security conscious pseudo country living types.
