Send us in your stories about Space Invaders and it's many clones - we will be doing that for the next podcast! We'd like to hear your opinions of good 'ol Spacies.

Great pod cast guys
Stop mentioning great games on the nes ( stringer ) that's another game I've got to buy or was , it's over £100 boxed :(
Glad you've joined DLF great site.
I like the mention of sound tracks within games maybe it could be a favourite feature.
I have to say road rash is a classic sound track
And Gyruss :)
Keep up the good work guys

All this "in your face" malarkey is just nonsense with out actually playing "In your face " too.
So until you two go head to head on this wicked game.

I'll definitely check that out Alex!

Would anybody like to post their memories of Space Invaders (and related games) for the next podcast? Here's mine:

Space Invaders at the Durley Hall hotel, Bournemouth, Christmas 1979. I vividly remember walking into a large lounge / bar area and there in the corner sat a large colourful box with a telly in it. I walked over and was instantly mesmerised by the graphics and sound. I rested my pint of Skol on top of the cab (it took ages to eventually slide off) and cleared eight boards on my first go. A large crowd gathered around and started clapping, cheering and urging me on. I actually heard a man say 'this kid is the future' at one point. Little did I know but that man was Roy Castle from BBC TV's Record Breakers, and he asked me on the show. Later that day I was whisked off to Shepherds Bush TV studio for a one hour Record Breakers special, where I displayed my world-beating class on this great new game. In the evening I got a text from a young man called Billy Mitchell, who said I was far too good to beat at Space Invaders but said that my performance had inspired him to practise on any future new games that may be released featuring gorillas. The next morning I got a cheque from the Guinness Book of Records for £10,000 and the president of Taito Skyped me to ask me to help design Lunar Rescue.

Happy times...

I have two Space Invaders clones

1 Gremlin Super Space Attack
1 Super Invaders

I would like to tell about but I am still a bit sad that you guys only spend 2 minutes to describe my barnraid and did not even mention even one of the really rare games in that barn.

There are things that are ultra rare in the world and many many early 80´s arcade games and you mention the 2 S.C.I.´s, the 3 player off road and Mortal Kombat.....plus stated the 6-zylinder buick for the listeners to get an impression how big the barn is but did not mention the 8-zylinder Dodge in front of it.

The podcast-project is an awesome project though...

About Space Invaders:

I am so happy that both of my Space Invaders are SI-DX-clones, with the backdrop and the semi-translucent mirror.

I think even today this is a very impressive gimmick for people, especiall for the ones that are two young to ever see an real arcade.

I look forward to restore my two clones and to play them because - believe it or not - I think I never have plaid SI in my life and the games from my raid are all just stored....no thought about playing them in the next time as I still have to pick 12-15 games from 35....

PS.: Someting about the barn, in one of our last visits we also found an old trailer-game.
its a real MTX-bike mounted on a trailer. The bike runs with it wheels on rolls and got guid-bars to avoid to get out of position....and guess what...its a ZACCARIA.

I remember this game when I was a small child....I think my father let me ride it one time 30 years ago.

Your barn raid is very interesting, but is 27 pages long on DLF and I put up a link for listeners to take a look themselves.

I didn't mention all the trouble that occured in that thread either. We just report things of interest. You could always write in to us something you might want mentioned?

27 pages and still raising.....as at least one third of the cabs are still there.

But I wont post it on DLF, because of the mentioned troubles...
As for the troubles, I would be happy if it would have been mentioned that german members tried to finish me AFTER I told them the Space Ace is already promised to somebody else...and not only in that thread, that certain german member I try to get rid of by changing the forum corupted every other thread I started.

My new home is UKVAC, people are so friendly and helpful like in no other forum.
I feel much more compfortable here than in any other forum worldwide.

If members can suggest you content than I will tell you when I go to the next vendor IF you are interested in pinballs. He got at least 40!

As for myself I am not a big pin-freak but he got the one or other arcade machine too...but nothing really exiting...you will decide if it is interesting for your listeners

As your cool podcasts are living from stories, maybe this could be worth a look :)
Its one of my the projects my heart hangs on as I could not see what happended to this poor machine:

Thumbs up for the podcast-project in any case, very good to do something like that. If I would have such a great accent like you guys have I would do something like that in german...but I fear nobody wants to hear a voice like mine

Great podcast again, guess what I did, I saved it ready for my first commute home after it was released, I did laugh out loud when the In Your Face bit happened, Vic you really do have some competition now and looks like you are now the "score underdog!" hehe.

I found the bit of history on the Sonson creater very interesting, can't believe how he got screwed over with the Time Pilot by his boss...then sacked, so wrong, but I guess he did make it in the end over at Capcom, so a happy tale.

Space Invader stories, hmmmm, first time I played on it was at my school social club, they had a gauntlet and Double dragon in their, DD got swapped out for Space Invaders for a while, but it was not really a hit with the other kids so DD made a return. Aside console version, I must admit I'd not really played it again until the Revival Mini up in Kenilworth last October. I settled down at the Space Fever cocktail (Alex's I believe...well it was his, as it was unplugged and carried away by him & Vic while I was playing it, haha) Found that totally awesome which led me to picking up an old battered moon cresta cocktail which I'd at somepoint like to have a multi-pcb in so I can play some more space invader style clones in Vs mode.

Keep up the good work with the podcast
Cheers

Another nice episode, wish they went on for longer really! I like the sound of stylish cabs, one shaped like a shark would really be my sort of thing too

Am afraid I'm too young for Space Invaders

Nice to hear a mention of Tamayo Kawamoto, her Rayforce and Raystorm soundtracks are great.

Got to point out that Bells & Whistles = Detana!! Twin Bee

I feel 19XX is the best in the 1940s series, am sure 1943 had the silly life bar to stop people stocking lives like on 1942. And I found it really funny how you compared SideArms to the control scheme in DeathSmiles but not the other way around earlier on!

Thanks for the comments Steve!

I think that is because I have been playing Deathsmiles recently, and SideArms only came to mind after finishing Deathsmiles (on a mere 426 credits woooo!)
