Great podcast as always, chaps. Mr Driller has always been a favourite of mine - I'm going to give it a good play when I get back from my hols. Can't find a single arcade cab anywhere here on Kefalonia. It's all beaches and tavernas and stuff. All this fresh air and sunshine can't be good for you, can it?
Hopefully this hasn't already been posted...
The whole Jaffa Cake/Jaffa Biscuit debacle was cleared up back in 91... HMRC went after McVities for non payment of VAT... VAT is payable on chocolate-covered biscuits, but not on chocolate-covered cakes.
The tribunal ruled in favour of McVities - they concluded that Jaffa Cakes are CAKES not biscuits.
If I remember the clincher was down to what happens when they go stale... biscuits go soft when stale and cakes go hard.
Stale Jaffa Cakes go hard. Case closed.

Vic - Rasp Pi 2, there is already a pretty good frontend and in fact complete build (just an image).
Google and get the 'piplay' one, which is pretty good and boots quickly (of course being Linux!).
-also you will see there is information on adding buttons, etc. via GPIO connector, etc.
You mention, audio, this is the biggest arse with the Pi, and indeed as Shaun mentioned the audio comes through the HDMI (as long as the correct HDMI lead, etc.) or it can come from the 3.5mm jack. Sadly, the audio level is extremely low on the 3.5mm jack, even when tweaking it to the max as below:-
amixer cset numid=3 2
2 is hdmi
1 is audio jack
0 is auto
or use:-
sudo raspi-config
Better to use amplified speakers or put an audio amp in between the Pi and the speakers.
I've built one of these Piplay setups recently, and it runs very well.
Not wanting to run SteetFighter or any of that modern stuff, but the Pi2 has a much faster CPU and more Ram, so can run more emulators. It uses an old Mame build (37b2 or sommik) due to overheads with the later Mame builds, etc.
Power - make sure it is a +5V 2A supply, otherwise you make get issues with stabilty.

Hey guys as promised here is some long overdue feedback.
Some of the feedback might be not so relevant as I've covered the last couple of episodes...
This feedback is full of "ping" requests, so sorry in advance if you think I am over requesting them. I realize "pings" are not to be thrown around at random or taken for granted, but hopefully you'll agree the ones I've asked for justify them.
I think the podcast is going from strength to strength, what with arcade outsiders taking a break the 10p podcast is now the most important show about arcade games available. As others have said I hope you keep going - I realize its a fair bit of commitment to keep up the shows regularly, on time and with fresh content, so a big "ping" to yourselves please!
UK World Record players - I got thinking about this, and prompted by John's perfect pacman success recently I thought I'd give our home grown talent a bigging up. I'm not in the same league as these guys and never will be, but it gives me a warm fuzzy feeling inside - almost patriotic - that we have world class players amongst our midst. Please give them a "ping"!
The old 10p podcasts... you were bemoaning the quality of the earlier recordings, but personally I like the "wax cylinder" character of them, although it must be said its nice to hear you two nice and clear. Give James RGP a "ping" please for supplying the equipment to do this.
You mentioned Domino Man - that is an awesome cabinet with cracking artwork - I love it when cab manufacturers went the extra mile to make their games stand out. I didn't play this back in the day but I did love tapper on the Amiga. I thought the graphical detail and animation in these games was really great for its time. Sorry Shaun but you are wrong about this one - its actually a good game and deserves a little more love
T-Shirts... I think you should consider Shaun's glorious avatars for your t-shirt design, maybe including you guys with your favourite games, or adopting a celebratory pose of something. I love that art and if you had something like that I'd consider buying one of them. I work in a games company where there are many cool t-shirts on display, so its good when an interesting design makes you ask "what is that all about then?". Anyway just my 10p's worth
I really liked hearing about your youth and where you played arcade games - you are both very lucky to have grown up near seasides - of course all the best games were found at the coast along with fairgrounds. Some of my happiest memories are playing now very rare games in Great Yarmouth, Hunstanton and other places around the East coast.
I've been enjoying all the questions that have been sent in recently, so I have one for you: If you could be a video game character, who or what would it be and why? I think I'd be Mr. Do - one of my all time faves. I'm a bit of a clown, a bit quirky or so I'm told although I don't wear a pointy hat
Shaun's cab - congratulations and "about bloody time". Seriously good news mate I hope you get a lot of enjoyment from it. Be careful though as others have said it can go quickly downhill from here
Lastly onto my own projects...
I've taken the leap and done the unthinkable - I sold my first cab! Although it wasn't easy I got quite a nice feeling from this. It was almost liberating. I was thinking that I could be a hoarder quite easily but didn't want to go down that road, plus its cool that other people get to have the games they would love to own. Anyway it was a neo geo 6 slot - great games indeed but I am really into 80's classics, and with a couple of new games on the way I had to make some room and get some extra funds together.
I've had great success with sorting out my Phoenix cab. After a number of adventures with Wells Gardners monitors the picture is now lovely. I also did some work on the pcb, replacing chips etc. and now all the sounds and music are working. I have a new found respect for the game now.
I find it interesting and I've read before when certain games are often faulty, or a particular game someone has is problematic it could eventually make you really dislike it.
I know you advised me before to send my monitor chassis off for repair but I'm really glad I stuck with it and worked through the problems myself, I've always been into fixing things if I can and encourage others to do the same - its a big part of this hobby and I've learned tons since getting into it.
Do you accept "pings" on behalf of others? Can I have a nice big "ping" for obcd and gunblade from me. Without their help I doubt I would have fixed the monitor issues. As is often said the arcade community is pretty great at helping each other out

My 4-way sticks didn't arrive in time but I think I'll still give Mr Driller a proper go go when they do. Excellent podcast as ever chaps, thank you for spending your valuable time creating it. It's giving me ideas of things to play, rather than just firing up Bombjack every time
just listened to #43 lying by the pool in the hot florida sunshine on a rest afternoon....the end of the podcast coincided precisely with the arrival of the rain and a storm and ive now gone indoors. hopefully ill be able to play some mr driller when i get back as im quite fond of that game.

Really fun little game. Never seen this or any of its sequels in an arcade (I'm assuming it was quite rare in the UK?), but there was a PC version released a number of years ago which I played to death.

To resurrect this now old thread - my 4-way sticks arrived the day before a holiday so they didn't get used have now stuck them in my mame stick box thing and looking for a little more time to get some practice in. I'm not sure I like them all that much - they're Seimitsu LS-32-SE's (with the gate set to 4-way obviously) and I am a bit more of a suzo competition-type-of-stick fan.
I do however find my commands are still ignored often enough by the little swine so I'm wondering about Vic's comments about mame vs real board. I notice the sound is quite dodgy most of the time - and some of the youtube vids are not - and mame's speedo is always showing about 99%, down to 80%-odd when the intermission screens are going on. I wonder if that's interfering with control at times. Maybe I just need a faster PC. Or maybe I'm actually just crap at it
I'm therefore keeping one eye out for a board. There's a driller 2 on the 'bay but I think I'll keep the funds for driller 1. I'll also actually need to fix the horizontal cab that I have in time (it's not in good nick!). Nice one Vic and Shaun, got me a new addiction I think! Ta

I have seen speed problems with mane before. What version are you using? A friend of mine had monkeyed around with his .ini settings and slowed mame down somehow. You could try renaming your mame.ini and then mame via command prompt with mame -createconfig to make a reset .ini file and see how you get on...
