We've had a great laugh making this episode and it was cool to meet up and have a few games together at the new incarnation of Arcade Club. I've also discovered that if you feed Vic enough Haribos he goes into a sugar-frenzy and can churn out top-notch comedy sketches

Also in the iTunes thing.

Just listened to the new podcast, another excellent episode and an excellent choice of featured game
smiley36.gif

Not that anyone cares, but you mentioned the fact that it's not possible to fire up and down, which is true (and I think we all agree that this is a huge flaw in the game design!). However, if you are caught in a vertical corridor and you are being chased it is possible to fire while moving and the faster baddies will hit your slow moving bullets. I think this technique is mentioned in the MAME info for the game.

Finally, you should check out the Atari 2600 version of this game, I had it as a lad and it might not look much but I think it plays far better than the arcade version! Here's a video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1mZrOZaGXVY

Never played next weeks game, looking forward to giving it a go tonight and I've been inspired to hook up my 1942 board again thanks to you guys talking about it, I'm determined to get to the end this time.

Great Podcast as always

sorry not been leaving comments i tend to forget what i was supposed to write by teh time i get to the end of the podcast

been playing some Batsugun and its great, also been playing load of Mushihemisama and even brought it on Steam which is great

Do you remeber me telling you that i dont like cutdown Naomi Unuversal cabs as i prefer playign standing up. well thats is exactly why. i play a btter game standing.

i think the theory behind it is that when you sitting your a little more relaxed and when your standing your almost like your in fighting stance and hence ready to go and end up playing better.

Also i told you about Skull Girls Months and Months ago when you posted a thread asking us to tell us games that should have been in the Arcades.i texted it to you. but because i text you loads its lost in the messages so i couldnt find it. its been upgraded now to Skull Girls Encore and its a fantastic game, My player of choice is Parasoul

i will say one more thing

Breadbin Versions
COMMODORE 16 is Very Dark Grey, which Light Grey Keys
COMMODORE 64 is Light Brown, with Dark Brown Keys and Dark Taupe Keys
COMMODORE VIC 20 is Beige, with Dark Brown Keys and Orange F Keys

so the person that claims a C16 is dark brown needs specsavers i think as let alone the C16, absolutly no Commodore was ever Dark Brown, Except the actual Keys.

That person was me, a proud C16 owner from yesteryear. My how one's memory can fool one!! It appears I am mistaken, but suitably reprimanded for my foolishness.

It now appears that the C16 was not the brown lump I fondly remembered owning, but instead a trend setting black number, way ahead of it's time.

Shaun, Vic, Everyone I apologise.

Anyway, no offence meant/caused and I'm off to flagellate myself (again).

Man how I loved Mr Puniverse. I think (the same think that thought my C16 was brown!!) that me and my mate looped it. In that we mapped out every screen, and to which screen they linked to, then set about collecting every single pill. Then it just looped and started us back at the start again. Our jubilation cut short we just switched it off. Never played that game again.

Off course I could be mistaken...........................................

Hi guys,

Thanks for another good listen. Gonna try and keep this brief as I fear I waffle too much.

Tech tips - this is really doing it for me, it seems gauged, suited and written just for me. Couldn't ask for more.

Some good live recordings, capturing the moment. Arcade Club really sounds like it has nailed it at the new venue and I cannot
wait for the weekend to come (14th) for my chance to visit.

Game of the week - well there was no love lost betwixt you guys and last weeks poor old "Tut" was there? Some scathing
put downs Mr Marland. I kinda got to like the old guy in the end.

Onto this weeks game, Batsugun. When I read the show notes announcing it, I got excited, having recently discovered the world of bullet hell shooters from Japan. But unfortunately three things happened fairly quickly;
1. I realised that trying to play a maddeningly fast, bullet filled shooter without an arcade stick, using only your poxy laptop keyboard is not going to end well.
2. I am actually quite phenomenally crap at this game.
3. Shaun set some ridiculously high score about 3 hours into the competition which was the gaming equivalent of slapping my cheeks with a wet kipper.

So, I gave up, mainly due to point 1 and spent my time building myself an arcade stick instead. I know there were a few helpful tweets from listeners about which ones to buy, but I like building things.

I know this must take up a lot of your time, but please keep it up, I seem to have grown quite attached to you over the months....

Neil.

PS: Keep f-lag-a-leg-a-lat-ing

Missed a fortnight or more of 10-pencing due to work stuff :(

Fair doos, I'm not into vertical shooters at all, but you have got me playing one and I actually quite like it. Way better than Uncle Poo that is for sure (still convinced you two liking that one is a wind up).

Not much time to devote so my score is so teeny tiny that I'm not telling. Maybe later if it's only just mildly humiliated by Shaun's I will divulge :)

Sarj,

That looks awesome. My ailing memory may have it's faults but on seeing these screen shots, I can genuinely remember pretty much all of the screen. Absolute classic game.

Thanks for sharing and giving my memory a well needed help up !!!

Does anyone know How on earth do you get Batsugun working in mame, I keep getting missing chd or some such error.

you need to download the batsugun rom in a ZIP form and add that to roms folder within MAME

batsugunsp.zip is teh one for the podcast but you might need to also download teh parent file as well which is batsugun.zip

and it should work

i am assuming you dont have teh batsugun.zip parent and hence why your getting the error

it does bring back a rushing memory, one liek you say,you sort of never forget

me owning a C16 is purly for this game. i dont care if i never play anotehr game on C16 but Mr Puniverse is the game for me on it and of course BigMac

The Vic 20 for some has some real nostaligia but for me has none as i never owned one, some even say its better than the C16 but for me Mr Puniverse really makes it a worth while computer to own
