Had a bit a a trek on Saturday but I think it was worth it
Picked
this up on Friday, time is now 5.00am on Saturday morning and I have a
600+ mile round trip ahead. I have a passenger arriving soon in the form
of Bods and we will be off to Mostyn, North Wales (1st leg)
After
3 hours of traveling with a few minor mishaps, like bridge 4" smaller
than height of van, random power losses in the pathetic hire vehicle
(cigarette lighter not working for sat nav so jimmy rigged to a battery,
crappy van losing power randomly when it chooses) we arrive at Mostyn
and eventually travel down the little track above for about 1/2 mile of
10" potholes and arrive here
Yes,
you've all seen pics of it already, It is the Duke of Lancaster, a dry
docked ex cruise ship that became a leisure ship for the locals, with
cinema, restaurants, and an arcade with about 130 machines
Guess which bit were here for !!
Only problem is, its up there
So
this was pretty useful, the ship itself was very dark in places and
manual cabs shifting would have been hell. 5/6 at a time came down on
this
There
were about 15 people involved here and the first lots started coming
off around 8am (we missed this because of aforementioned grief) and were
sorted and loaded onto the various vehicles
The whole thing took about 4 hours and we were ready to go, the EX arcade was now empty
It
was now about 12.30pm on Saturday afternoon, and thankfully, the rain
almost held off until we finished. Now we had a 300 mile drive to the
Arcadebarn ahead of us, sadly my body didn't want to do it but we had
other things to do
Off
down the M6 we went, no pictures of this part, so imagine the M6 on a
Saturday afternoon from Liverpool'ish to Coventry. Quick pit stop at
home to replenish and recharge (Phone battery also died
)
After 1/2 hour, Onwards we go.....
Again, no pictures, Imagine 3 hours of M5 on a Saturday afternoon
Arrive at Barn at 7.30pm, meet with Shaun and the exchange is done, more later
Another
collection on the way back down the M5 (Not arcade related) and we find
that it has been snowing rather heavily, motorway restrictions at 50
& 60 and the gritters are out in force, only 168 miles to home
Finally
arrived back at about 12.30am Sunday morning, too knackered to unload
anything, so Chris went home with his goodies, and I went to sleep on
the sofa. zzzzzzzz
Here is what I got, unloaded Sunday afternoon after I woke up
No.1 Space Invaders Pt II (Complete), artwork faded on one side and a bit rusty
No.2 Space Invaders. Bit pi$$ed about this one, was complete until it met with the handles of the sack truck, now it has a hole
No.3 Galaxian, bit of rust on the exposed metalwork but in nice condition and better still complete
No.4 Asteroids, missing brick & AR but I have spares, best condition G05 Ive ever seen
little bit of rust, few buttons missing but nice.
And last but by no means least, and the reason for the Barn visit at 7.30pm, thanks Shaun
No. 5 Star Wars Cockpit, few issues but will hopefully be sorted soon...
A massive thanks to Oll for the amount of work he put into this and to everyone else who made it a reality
Andy.
