Hello all, loving the new site!

I recently picked up the above with a non-working monitor. Grant has done the impossible and fixed the chassis and now the monitor is looking good once again. Unfortunately, these Wei Ya's are well known for having idiosyncrasies - dogs anybody have any succesful experiences with vertical multi-boards, raspberry pi's, pc's etc with this cab / monitor? I believe that the monitor was originally killed by exceeding 640 x 480. I'm a little weary, as I don't want to kill her again!

Atom sd What I did … Xbox vga lead
To chassi … with 1080 enabled ..
That killed my Shanghai Novell pfx
…. Pi to jamma I would say is fine
For you .. just keep it low res 240 15khz. Mode .
First power on 640x480. When you first turn it on to configure though you could use a vga monitor or similar flat screen tv with vga … then once it switches to 15khz if your vga /tv is not compatible
You will or won’t get a picture ..
But you should know by menus and resolution that your now in 15khz
Quick /switch res will tell you also what res you are running so you will know it’s ok to connect up to chassis ..

Jpac Will help also
Pi to jpac
Set jumper on jpac to 15khz only
And use once pi is configured to 15khz
If you get a nice picture you know your running everything in low res ( safe native resolution ..

1st thing I would say is to configure it using a separate spare ( preferably 15khz compatible nice a light 19” flat screen small monitor … )
Then your good to go

I was hoping somebody was going to say that! I like the idea of the J-pac. It sounds like a fool proof hardware solution (hold my beer!). I'll keep this post updated, and expect stupid questions!

You can build a groovymame small pc build with a Jpac as well
Really good once it’s set up ..
chunksin has ready made builds in the mame section with a great tutorial
Check it out it will help you out a lot if your just starting

The RGB-Pi Jamma seems to do the job!



I need to familiarise myself with retroarch though (I HATE IT!) and ensure that I don’t inadvertently bump up the Khz and resolution.



I’m a little confused how everything runs at 240p yet the RGB-Pi OS changes resolution ad hoc. To my N00b brain, these are contradicting statements, but obviously I’m missing something.



The graphics do look very low resolution for all games but that may just be my untrained eye moving from a tiny 14” dino king to a massive 29”!



Doing a little bit of reading it seems that these Wei Ya chassis fail when moving between the three resolutions too rapidly i.e. High resolution game, to low resolution menu and vice versa. So my first priority is to learn how make sure that the Pi does not do this.



I’m running the RGB-Pi OS2 TATE pack at the minute, I need to work out how to add and play horizontal games – my little girl is crazing me to set up SFIII!



I’m also going to make the Cab look like an Egret 3 eventually. I know it’s a bit like adding a GTI badge to a standard Golf but the colour scheme is a bit more wife friendly…

Check controls on the chassi itself
Not the adjustment pcb.

Do you know the chassi model ?


Balancing the picture is done with the
Controls on the chassi it’s self not
Just the chassi controller small pcb.

This is not a job for the faint hearted.
Requires a plastic tv adjustment tool.

And a friend or a mirror or monitor and chassi outside of the cab.

There is a faq on how to do this.
It’s worth finding it and following it as
It’s great when picture zero’ed in correctly.. I will try to find the faq for you..

There is a chance all your monitor chassis adjustments are in the correct place From the factory .
Usually they would have a little white mark already on the dials indicating that they have been pre set to correct state. But over time they may need a little tweak.

Also the flyback has the master brightness .. maybe you just need to
Slightest increase on the brightness at the flyback

I have a pi set up for vertical at 15K and just use a J-pac and a vertical build. I found Pacman, pengo and donkey kong were the best game when I started to alter the screen a bit so it all fits in !!. Once sorted that most games looked really good .Donkey Kong has the high Score right at top !

Presumably because it adjusts the voltage to the Screen Grid anode (G2) that controls how quickly electrons boiled off the cathode are pulled toward the screen. That's how I understand it to work, anyway.

Yeh funny chassi
I have a wei ya tri sync ..
And a rodotron.
Apparently litterd with low cost components.
I was told some folk just replaced parts
Even when chassis was new such was the high failure rate
Haven’t powerd up the wei ya in over a year .. so would be well suprised if it’s still working.

And yeh needs to be power off when switching
Resalutions ..

29” tri sync and pretty impressed with the way it works with mame it just handles it all automatically.

I didn't say 'pulled off'', but anyway, the negatively charged electrons boiling off the cathode are attracted to the positively charged G2 anode.

When my dad mended TV's and they they were repaired he used to leave them in our front room without the backs on. I tried to reach round to put an aerial in one once and my hand once it touched the back was "attracted" to the solder which held it there temp till I pulled it back with nice dents in my hand then !! Oh the joy , imagine health and safety now ! We used to carry the large CRTS's into some flats up several stairs. getting Tv's back and the 50 p slots for those that got behind in payment was "interesting"/////

…. My neighbours had that 50p slot on the tv.
We didn’t have a colour telly ..
Seeing the tv next door when it was on! was like amazing especially if it was
Something like a game show.
Wasn’t long before we had our own telly
But we did go two years without a telly
When we knocked the new one .
Knecking it!

Some people broke those 50p boxes off.
Also I remember the anamosity towards the man that would come and fill his bag with the 50ps..
Like when the pools man would come round also …. And the milk float going up and down at 5/6 in the morning..
